The position of the dirtbag. Sorry, Mr. Harley, but that’s not a parking spot.

meh, hes not blocking the cart aisle, and not really in the way. I’d park there. fuck it

Honestly, I prefer this over them taking up a whole regular parking spot. It doesn’t appear to be blocking access to the cart return or anything (at least from what I can see in the picture).

But he is? Him parking inbetween the lines blocks it more than parking in the twenty other empty spots. Also, why the hell would you want to park in a spot where you know people are going to walk by with shopping carts?

As mentioned to Peter, there were at least twenty other empty parking spots. And while not completely blocking, it’s annoying to have to manoeuvre around it and worry about scratching the bike.

Ah, if there are that many other open spots, then yeah, dude needs to use an actual spot. I can agree that it’d be slightly inconvenient to have to maneuver around the bike. I don’t understand why the guy would want to put his bike at risk of being hit by people carelessly returning the carts. So much risk from paint scratches or even having the bike knocked over if the person is being dumb enough.

Why worry though? That’s not a parking spot, therefore any unintentional damage that occurs is his fault, and his fault alone.

*Obviously this excludes intentional damage. But if the car were to drift, or a wheel were to lock up and cause you to run into it, I can guarantee you that you would not be liable for any damages. He could sue you for negligence, but he wouldn’t win be Agee your counter would be, “Why did you park there? You shouldn’t have parked there.”

*I may be stressing out about law school, but damn it’s fun already have more legal knowledge*.

**In no way should this be construed as legal advice. This is a hypothetical only and there is no attorney client relationship.

worry about scratching the bike.

Or maybe it’s a sign from the owner that you shouldn’t worry about it lol.

It’s right in front of carts... I wouldn’t even park in a parking spot near a cart stall unless I have no choice.

“What happened to my bike???”

“Sorry asshole, I mean sir, I couldn’t walk with my cane and keep control of the cart. But you’ll see from the path of the cart that had your bike not been illegally parked the cart would have just hit the curb. So this is no one’s fault but your own.”

I could see that being the case if he was all the way to the left against the curb. As it is he’s not leaving much room to get around with carts. Customers returning a cart can manage, but that’s going to be a nightmare for any employee sent to retrieve carts.

I mean, it’s pretty simple: that’s a space that should in no circumstances be blocked. Pushing over, in my mind, would be kind of justified. As would towing or a massive ticket.

Kinja'd!!! "Chariotoflove" (chariotoflove)

I can almost never get them towed or ticketed from a private lot in time before they return. They know that; that’s why they do it. And my wife, bless her gentle heart, would get really upset if I intentionally damaged another person’s vehicle in her presence (or our daughter’s).

Sometimes this being a good person thing is hard.

Yeah. I mean, if there’s a local autogroup in your area, the least that could be done is taking a picture and sharing it. Hopefully shaming the person if they’re in a group would help.

However, as hard as being a good person is, it seems like your daughter has a good person to look up to.

Questionable on a private lot. But I did have one triumphant moment. I’ve told this before. Came out of Home Depot to find a car parked next to me blocking me from getting into mine. Went back in and got the cop hanging out there. He waited with me until the asshole parker came out, and then he put the fear of God into him. Fed him all this stuff about how he could have his car towed at his expense, etc. He let the guy go after he about pissed his pants. I got to sit back and watch it all.

Life was good that day.

Many setups have multiple cams. Besides, you won’t be dropping nails when you’re trying to glue plastic bits back together or fix that loose clutch lever.

I bet a cart could get moving fast enough to knock something over :)

Easily avoided by parking properly.

also avoided by you not being a cunt. I park so I dont take up a fullsized spot for someone else. be it at a bicycle rack or a small out of the way spot like that, I take it.

No you can’t, but it does get a bit better. First year is intentionally rough. It really is a weeding out year, especially the first semester. I got my J.D. going part time with a family and a full time job and it worked out alright. It was a pain in the ass, and I’d never want to do it again, but it gets better once you start picking courses you actually want to take. Also, assuming you’re going full time, it’s even better. Just relax, it’ll happen. No one else knows shit either, especially the ones that sit in front and act like they know everything.

You just have to push really hard, maybe aim it for the right spot on the kickstand. If it is worth doing, it is worth doing right. Imagine the sound of a few cymbals hitting the ground.

I park like a decent rule-observing person, not a cunt or not one who thinks they are special independent free wild soul on a bike. If everyone parked like me, there’d be a lot less parking lot damage and rage. Just move to Europe, and sidewalk parking is cool.

I love you right now. You just addressed all of my concerns.

I got my BA going full-time and also working full time as a technician, and I was not happy. I was not as stressed as I am now but that’s because I knew my BA didn’t matter. I knew I didn’t need to take a test at the end that would determine whether I learned anything. It also cost me only slightly more than one semester of law school is costing me now.

But you really just made me feel a lot better. During orientation, I thought I would be fine because I understood all of the basics while everyone else was lost. But now we’re in the thick of it and I actually have to read, I can’t skate by. I just need to adjust to a new normal, and it hasn’t been easy. It’s been especially hard because I took two months off work to have a hip replacement, and I’m just now transitioning back into work. So I’m trying to go back to work, start law school, and continue with my recovery. And I’m doing that all while trying to do other adult things around the house. I wish it was easier.

I’m glad that the annoying people in front probably don’t know more than me, even though they don’t shut up. I haven’t been lost, just overwhelmed. Last night the professor (legal analysis and writing) was talking about how some students just have a natural lawyer brain and don’t have to kill themselves studying twenty hours a day. I hope the fact that I enjoy classes and reading so far, and I understand it and am retaining it is a good sign.

Oh and one of those front rows know it all loudmouths said the following in response to a foul ball line question, “Well if you park on the line you’re still in the parking spot.” I don’t know if she’ll pass the bar the first time. I think she’s only there for another degree (she said she had a ton because apparently, she thinks that makes her better than others?).

No problem. It really is an exercise in patience. A lot of patience. And reading. FWIW, Legal Writing is probably the single most important class you’ll ever take, and you should really put your all into that paper because it may wind up being your primary writing sample for the next few years. Also, and I can’t stress this enough in a world where literally everyone takes notes on a computer, don’t do that. Handwrite. I promise it’ll work better. You’ll be the odd man out on everything (I also handwrote eight semesters of exams), but you’ll learn much better than if you try to use the computer. There are too many distractions on the computer and the semester or two that I got lazy and took notes electronically, I did measurably worse.

Kinja'd!!! "His Stigness" (HisStigness)
08/30/2017 at 11:25, STARS: 0

I do get the impression Legal Writing will be important, especially since I think writing law papers and exams will be vastly different than even my poly sci papers. And I think my oldest sister, who was my grader throughout school, will be of little help as she was mainly a History and English major. She will be able to help me with APA, though.

It’s funny you mention the computer because I’ve been having that problem. But I’m at an impasse because the professors so far don’t post their lectures, and they go super fast. And my handwriting sucks, and it hurts because I have carpel tunnel. I’m thinking I may just disable the internet on my laptop during class to avoid the temptation.

I need to remember what I did in my last two years during my BA (I transferred to CSU CI from a community college) because I managed to use my tablet to take notes effectively without getting distracted. Maybe I need to go back to my laptop because it’s much harder to get distracted with a slow ass tablet.
