Started building an RC drift car this week, the first RC car I’ve ever built. (Owned a RTR truggy in the past) Here’s the progress so far:

Building this thing is a lot of fun, wish I’d have done one earlier in life. I’d definitely recommend it over getting a RTR. It’s not hard to build, and gives you a much better understanding of how everything on the car works. Can’t wait to finish it!

That looks like a fun chassis! I have a Tamiya R32 GTR drift car, it’s awesome. The assembly is so fun

Nice!

Yeah, I did a fair bit of research and it pretty much came down to either the Sakura D4 or a Yokomo YD-2. I went with the Sakura because of price and the ability to change between CS and RWD pretty easily.

I’ll have to look at those. Sounds a bit more capable than my TT-O1D!!

Yeah, everyone said getting a CS or RWD car is a big step up from any 50/50 touring chassis on drift tires.

You can buy the D4 as a RWD chassis too, some changes to the front suspension and no front diff/belt assembly. I know a few people recommended the MST MS-01D for a good affordable RTR RWD chassis. I just wanted to build mine, and apparently upgrades for MSTs are a fair bit pricier than the Sakuras. If you’re looking to get another CS or RWD chassis, I’d recommend either the D4 or YD-2.

What kind of motor do you have in the TT-01D? Might even be able to re-use your electronics.

I always liked painting the lexan bodies. I want to try an electric, I was big in to nitros for a long time and still have a few. I spent a lot more time dicking around/getting them running correctly than I did driving them.

I’ve never owned a nitro car, played with a few though, and from what I can tell it doesn’t really seem worth it to run nitro anymore. With the advancements in battery (LiPo) and brushless motor technology, the electric cars can be stupid fast and run for a good amount of time. Sounds like people are generally getting around 40min to an hour of run time out of 2S LiPo’s on drift cars. That is way more than I ever got out of my cheap truggy with NiMH batteries, which was maybe 15-25min or run time per battery. I used to take two fully charged batteries out whenever I wanted to drive the car.
