4.63 GPA??? What a crock of shit. High school has gotten so ridiculous now. Everyone needs a gold star, or a platinum one since everyone has a gold star.
When I graduated high school they started some new bullshit of “graduating with honors.” All of my sisters (who had all graduated with real honors from a real school) laughed and said it was so stupid. And they were right. It’s bad more kids aren’t like this kid who realizes the system is complete bullshit.

We don’t do graduation here. We do our exams, do the last few days of school, the last day we sign each others shirts then wait outside the school gates and throw flour and eggs at each other and squirt shaving foam, etc... then a couple of weeks or so later we return to the school to get our grades.
Your graduation stuff is what we do for universities, not secondary (high) schools.

But hell, now it’s even worse. In the U.S. it was, if you studied hard and worked hard, showed discipline, etc... you could possibly grow up to be President of the United States. Then trumpton came along and showed that you don’t need any of that. You can be a sexist, racist, idiotic, ignorant turd with all the skills of dead beaver and you can still be president even if you’ve clearly shown you can’t operate a business properly, you too can operate a whole country.

The >4 GPA thing is really just a symptom of the problem. They did that because they didn’t want people to avoid AP/college level courses in order to get a higher GPA. The problem began when they started offering AP/college level courses as electives, because then people started forgoing extracurriculars to get a 5.0 in AP European Medieval history or some shit.
I think the core of the problem is everybody and their mother going to college now. The colleges and universities don’t really have a choice, but to be hyper selective because of how many people are going to college now.

Here they literally don’t give you your diploma until the graduation ceremony so you have to go. I’d imagine they’d have to give it to you even if you don’t go to the ceremony, but they make it clear it’ll be a pain in the ass to get it if you skip the ceremony.

Wow, that’s douchie.
Here, you go to the school to get your results of get them delivered to your house. The assessing body is called OCR (Oxford Cambridge RSA) and you get your certificates from them. They can’t withhold them they are yours, you earned them and you keep them in your NRA (National Record of Achievement) folder. You can request copies for a small fee if you lose one but that’s it.
Like Halloween, we’ve inherited proms from you guys. Thanks for that. I hope we don’t get the graduation stuff too.

AP and college level courses are electives now? Wow. That’s sad. In my day (less than ten years ago) they weren’t electives in that they replaced another class, they were just an option for the core level class. For example, the only real AP courses I could take were English, math, sciences, etc. College courses were technically electives, but I could double dip and satisfy my core level classes, which I did. I chose to be smarter than all the “smart” kids with 5.0's and took Government and Econ at the college instead of at the high school where no one learned anything.
I just think having anything higher than a 4.0 GPA is stupid since you don’t have that in any college (that I know of), so you’re just setting these kids up to fail.

And I do agree that we have a problem in our society in saying everyone needs to go to college. Not everyone is smart enough. But, as someone else said, the Boomers and members of Gen-X have set up a reward system where everyone wins. They can’t bring themselves to tell their little Timmy that he’s not smart enough to get a BA in sociology, and maybe he should take woodshop in class and learn how to build things. Or Johnny should take auto shop and learn how to fix things.
I just don’t understand where people think our labor force is going to come from if everyone is expected to have a BA just to turn a wrench or plunge a toilet.

It just warms my heart to know that even people outside of the US are absolutely pissed about a piece of shit being elected to office in the US.
But the American Dream has always been a crock of shit thought up by the Republican party to brain wash the masses into thinking tax cuts for the one percent would benefit them. But anyone with half a brain can see it for what it really is: a crock of shit. Just look at the DowJones. It’s breaking records every day, yet wages are stagnant. Corporate profits are at Scrooge McDuck levels, yet wages are still stagnant.

But we are from the same background, we share a history, sort of share a language (lol), share many thoughts of how we’d live to move on (if only some would put that book down for a second or two). So when you see your cousin going a little crazy it’s hard to keep all that quiet.

The Republican Party* had their head up their ass during this last cycle. And right now they’re scrambling.
While the Democratic Party* was out of touch (apparently) to what the voters “wanted,” they had their shit together and supported one candidate from the beginning. I can’t blame them for the “voters” being FUCKING STUPID and voting for a toddler who can’t string five words together into a coherent sentence.
