That’s how much was dumped on Southeast Texas in the past few days. Have our Gulf Coast Oppos checked in recently?

It’d be more Texas if they measured it in barrels as opposed to gallons.

We’re waiting for Harvey to come see us in Louisiana. Unfortunately, my wife is trapped in South Texas with my in-laws. She can’t dive back through Houston and if she takes the long way around, she’ll end up driving through the storm. I told her to stay put until it blows over. It’s the safest thing to do.

And that is why I despise nearly all of modern Christianity.

When the Great Flood of 1913 happened in Dayton, Ohio, John Patterson, the founder of NCR turned his cathedral to capitalism into a rescue operation command center overnight. He called his managers to a meeting where they hashed out a quick and easy assemble flatboat and went from building cash registers to rescue boats as fast as humanly possible. People were rescued and brought to the NCR campus where they were checked by the medical staff, given blankets and food and shelter. All at NCR’s expense.

What gawddamn help has this chucklefuck been to his city so far? Oh he’s prayed reeeaallyy hard about it.

Fuck off Joel.

I’ve got a newspaper clipping of John Patterson’s memorial dedication framed and hung by the bar in my basement. He did some really great things during the flood. Now I just need something about Charles Kettering to put up by the bar.

Have you read A Time Of Terror: The Great Dayton Flood by Alan Eckert? I recommend it for any Dayton area resident.

There you go! I wonder if they could spare a couple of thousand barrels...it’s a bit dry out my way.

This graphic feels like an awkward way of describing to people what the concept of cubic measurement is.

In other words, 8 cubic miles of water...

No, but it’s not exactly watertight after 13 years, so it gets pretty funky after a good rain.

And a lot more rain fell after this little graphic was conceived, too. Crazy amounts of water. A year or two worth of rain for where I live in New England, in 5 days. Mind = blown.
