I’m nervous with new people working on my car, but oh well. The dealer I bought the car from was a Mazda/Kia/Volvo operation, but they sold off their Mazda and Volvo franchises and now they only sell and service Kias.

So, us Mazda (and Volvo) owners got shuffled over to this new place. They’re still getting off the ground. The building and showroom is straight out of the ‘80s with wood paneling but they’re supposedly remodeling. We’ll see. I miss my old dealer. I liked having the car serviced where I actually bought it. They had all records with it and knew me and my car-OCD.

Also, there are two RX-8s up on lifts in the service bay. Who’s surprised?

You know the worst thing about having a car you really like? Things happen to it, it gets rock chips, things break, and it hurts. I hated when the M3 had to sit outside while I was living with my parents.

This is what I’m afraid of when I take delivery of my M2. Granted I’m getting paint protection film the day after I pick it up and it’ll be garage kept but I know little things will happen to it of course. Which sucks. But I have to tell myself it’s a car. I can’t make it a garage queen. I bought it for a reason, to drive it.

Yeah, I got a fat rock chip in my windshield. It sucks but at the same time, it’s a car it’s meant to be driven. M cars need to be driven.

The important thing is the techs. Ask where they hired their Mazda techs from. When the place I bought my Mazda from went under, the new place hired several of their old service people so that I had some continuity. I had to be careful of who worked on it for a while as they got their legs under them, but it wasn’t a total unknown.

Before you turn the car over to them, take a picture of the dash with the odometer and any warning lights. The last dealer I went to tried to claim that my CEL was on and that for only $75-$125 the could tell me the cause. Their own paperwork showed that it wasn’t on when I gave them the car, and they probably didn’t realize that I have a wifi adapter connected to the ODB2 port so that I can check these things myself, at a distance no less.

Either it was a scam or caused by something they did when they were doing the oil change, but regardless, they didn’t get an extra dime out of me and I haven’t been back since. Oh, and when they went back to check the alleged CEL it was miraculously NOT on. Hmm...

You should see if the old dealership/dealer group could print you out your service records. I typically keep a binder with all my records for each vehicle. I have been able to get a closed dealer/no longer carrying that brand to still provide me with the service records. They luckily still had access to all the records.

I have a binder with them all thankfully.

I’ve pretty much decided that my friend and I are just going to change the oil ourselves. The MyMazda app has a section where you can record your own maintenance.
