Summer there, and some aren’t.

At the age of 6 while in recess I ran into another kid’s head with my front tooth, killed it. Luckily for me it filled with calcium. Fast forward 35 years and I’ve lost Ol’ Yeller. Tonight was my first night socializing after a week of solitude. An exercise in self-awareness. “My eyes are up here”. Fun too.

They didn’t sell you a “flipper” to fill the gap?

Our friend’s son, despite repeated warnings, decided to practice pitching with a hard ball instead of a whiffle in the back yard. He had about half the normal pitching distance. The other kid cranked a line drive right into his mouth. Lost both of his front teeth

He’s had a flipper ever since.

Yes, I was fitted for a flipper yesterday morning. It takes about a week to get it back from the lab. I’ve been told they’re hit and miss when it comes to functionality. Some people have trouble eating some things. For this reason I have another appointment next month for a consultation for an implant.

I broke a tooth in half a few months ago, so I’m going through this process myself. The finstructions flipper they made is a full palate like the pic I posted. It was terrible. We went with one of the tiny ones that hooks onto the adjacent teeth. It’s a lot more comfortable, but I don’t think the fit is good enough to eat with it. I had to get donor tissue to build up the bone so they can do the implant. Next appointment is in October.

Good luck with yours!

I’m hopeful there’s no need for a bone graft. Fingers crossed.

Thanks, good luck with yours too!

Everything go well with your bone graft? Where are you in the process now?

It has gone well, thanks for asking. We are still a few months away from putting in the post, then they will add the new tooth. I’m really looking forward to filling the gap. The flipper sucks.

Good to hear. Yes, my flipper sucks too. Don’t be alarmed if the surgeon actually hammers the post in (no shit). Nobody told me and it was nightmare fuel.

Oh crap. That does NOT make me happy! How was the recovery? Did they wait a few days before putting the replacement tooth on the post?

If it makes you feel better, my doctor said some doctors don’t hammer. You having a bone graft may change the procedure too. My recovery was good and went according to schedule. The gums healed to about 75% health in 3 days. The last 25% of healing happened over the next 2 weeks until the stitches dissolved.

I had the procedure in January and am waiting for new bone to grow around and take hold of the post before a replacement tooth is attached. This takes 4-6 months. So a ways to go yet, but the worst is behind me!

Ok. So now I understand. I had a socket placed after the bone graft. My doc drilled it in. They will open it back up and screw in a post when everything heals up. So, do you have a post sticking out of your gums right now? The socket in mine is all under the gums.

Ok. So now I understand too...I think. The worst is behind you also.:-)x.

I have a post that is covered with gum. In 4 months he will open it up again and put a cap on it (which I assume is temporary). At this point he’ll leave the gums open. 2 weeks after this I’ll get an impression and a tooth.

Mine is more l ike a helicoil. The first part is screwed into the maxilla and is completely under the gum. The second part will be screwed into the first part, then the crown will be attached.
