I can sort of almost see why people buy these things

Kinja'd!!!

Friend drove me to lunch in his. It’s gigantic, but actually kind of good. Tons of real useful features, and for GM an amazing interior. Pretty fantastic, if you wanted something this huge. I’m sure it’s terrible to drive.

Also, cooled seats! My butt has never been happier.

I think they really nailed the styling on this gen, across the board. Never have I wanted an Escalade more (and it used to be never!)

I actually quite like the way these drive. I’ve got an old Yukon that drives like a bus, but my wife has an ‘05 Escalade that’s basically a tall car. Really very pleasant to drive, small turning circle so it’s good in parking lots. Gas mileage sucks, but the way it accelerates is an affront to God and physics and I like that about it.

Dad has an Escalade ESV. It is all bad. So huge that it barely fits into parking space, drives like a boat, feels like you are on the 2nd story of an apartment building, gets terrible MPG, has less interior room than our ‘00 Sienna. They put some nice wood and aluminum looking trim on the front, didn’t even bother on the 2nd row and the 3rd row is an absolute joke. Oh and the panel gaps and the interior trim gaps are huge.

And the AWD eats tires. The 22" low profile tires too.

They’re great to drive, if what you’re expecting is a comfy cruiser, because that’s what they are. I want one, badly.

I’d rather have the Suburban/Yukon XL/Escalade ESV, simply because I think the proportions on the Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade look weird. Like they designed the LWB trucks first then based the SWB trucks off of that design by just cutting some of it off.

We have one. My wife wanted it. I thought it was huge, ugly, and stupid.

I like it now.

The GMT800 (99-06) series SUVs really are a dream to drive. I personally prefer them to the 2 generations that succeeded.

Look below the belt line inside and you’ll want to vomit. My nephew’s playskool plastic is better than the glovebox in those things. Why anyone would pay that much for a body on frame old school V8 is beyond me. There’s a reason the Detroit 3 make such a killing on their margins. They’re recalcitrant dinosaurs.... I get the appeal, just if the Tahoe was 40-45K well equipped, not 60K.

I went from a GMT400 half ton suburban to a GMT800 3/4 ton suburban. My god, what an improvement! Every possible thing except fuel economy is better.

It drives like what it is. No surprises there. They ride poorer and have less space than MPVs while weighing more and clobbering more fuel.

But if you have to tow while seating 7, there isn’t much competition.

I’ve rented a few - they are nice. I like the looks of the new gen, but they seem to have more side to side bob than the last gen, (at least from my seat of the pants measurement...) They have really nice seats. And they make you feel like a secret service agent.

Yep, $61,740 for a Tahoe LTZ.... that’s not even a long wheelbase! True you can get an LT with the interior package but it’s still like $57K.

Their pricing is in line with the expedition, sequoia, and the armada... and those suvs have similar materials inside.

I wouldn’t get any of them. I don’t need something that massive.
