I asked Oppo “ WTF is wrong with my Ranger? ” A few days ago. When I noticed it jerking/bucking when I got on the gas a little bit, particularly in the lower RPMs/up hills.

I ordered plugs, wires, and a fuel filter. The plugs arrived yesterday, the fuel filter arrives tomorrow, and the wires arrive Sunday. I put the plugs in just now and wowzers! It runs sooo much better, the bucking/jerking is gone! I used to really feel it when the A/C switched on, now its much smoother. I’m kind of surprised it was the plugs. I thought fuel filter for sure. Obviously I will still be replacing the fuel filter and wires, but I will be doing so with less angst. Thanks peeps!

Holy moly - those are about the worst looking plugs I’ve seen come out of a vehicle that was still running. Is that rust on a spark plug? A testament to how scrappy that little Ranger is. Super congrats that was largely the issue.

Thanks for your help! It’s crazy what a fresh set of plugs will do. Judging by the condition and no longer existent part number, I’m going to guess that they have never been changed.

Haha, bad right?! It’s an 01 with only 64k miles (bought in may with 61k) so I’m sure they’re the original plugs. In addition the carfax shows that all that this truck did was sit on two dealer lots for almost 2 years.

Brake clean and a wire brush you’d be good to go...

Haha I don’t know how the mileage works out, I can only speak to the outside of the plugs because shit rusts out here. I’ve actually never had to change plugs before. I’ve never owned a car long enough besides the M3 which I don’t service. So I can’t compare these to anything. I just know those rounded electrodes started out flat.
