Kinja'd!!!

Or as my girlfriend would say, I have booked a mini van for the move. She does not accept anything other than sports cars for my rentals, haha I love her. But for my move from the airport to our new apartment, this will do perfectly. I will be fitting four full size suit cases, my carryon, a backpack, a set of skis in a bag, and my ski boot bag. That plus I have to get the owner home after he picks me up curbside. He was totally cool with cramming all of that in the car so looks like it should be fun. Plus he is a fellow Miata owner so he is my kind of guy!

Originally I was going to rent a Focus RS but this is half the price and probably about the same cargo space. Hopefully that RS stays on Turo though since I definitely still want to rent it in the future. But a GTI is actually on my list of potential daily drivers. I’m sure if I drove the RS, I would just go broke because I would end up going and buying one after!

Its a manual still though so its bound to be tons of fun either way. I’ve been worried that a GTI would be too boring for a daily driver so I will have to do some canyon runs to test it out (all of the Santa Monica mountains are 5 minutes from my apartment =D ). I’m still thinking the MS3 or WRX will be better options for my tastes. Although of course when I say WRX I mean a 9-2x or a legacy GT if I can find one of those instead.

This GTI will also be useful for the home depot and Ikea and Homegoods runs after move in since we will certainly need some new stuff. Should be a very “adult responsibilities” weekend.

Is there a minimal age for Turo?

Cool. I’ve been considering going to Turo just to rent something for fun that I wouldn’t get to drive normally.

I think the minimal age is chosen by the owner. Most sports cars are 25+ if I’m not mistaken.

There are so many things about this post they make my head hurt. My gf just told me that her CR-V is too small for her and she needs a Land Cruiser. :/

It seems strange that you could move all of your belongings in a GTI. You make minimalists look like hoarders. Have fun!

I’d day that a GTI is only boring if the driver is boring. Mine is plenty fun if I’m not snoozing through my commute.

They’re not boring to drive... just normal and therefor a bit boring.

I mean I am moving across the country so I have to get rid of most things. I’ve been able to weed it down to the prized possessions only. I’ll fit all my camping gear and tools in the Miata for the drive over but otherwise just clothes, cookware, projector and ps3, my skis, and assorted momentos are the only things coming. Furniture will be acquired in LA or supplied by my girlfriend who is moving hers over locally.

Most are 25 but the mini Cooper I rented at 24 with no fee. Depends on the owner. I’ve seen some with the age as 30

Yeah there a ton more cars in LA than anywhere else I’ve seen. So that will be the first place I look for test drives while car shopping. I know there’s a couple of exact copies of cars I’d want which is nice. A drive around the block in most test drives is totally useless lol

Yeah that’s what I worry about. Sure I already have my Miata for my fun, but ideally that will become more of a track car. From what I’ve heard about other comparable options to the GTI, something like the mazdaspeed3 or wrx would be more fun while sacrificing interior quality and comfort. But it’s all hearsay until I actually drive them all. I don’t think I’d be turned off by cheap interiors or discomfort, I currently daily a miata with a racing bucket seat lol

Plus the salesman usually wants to go with you and jabber, and you have to talk him out of it.

Shit I wish car manufacturers would let you pay to rent specific cars for like a week. Maybe at some stupid price but still 100% a rental. I would totally be more apt to purchasing one if I got to try it out for a week first.

True story time. My RX-8 was in for it’s warranty engine replacement, and the dealership didn’t have loaners. We were interested in the 5 because we had a small child. The salesman and his manager let us “test drive” one for four days. The wife and I agreed that this guy would get our next car purchase. Sadly, he left and the dealer closed up before we could follow through.

Land Cruiser over CRV just seems like a good call no matter what! You should support this :)
