Moon Hooch , sort of a strange jazz/rock fusion featuring two saxes and a drummer. Video gets a bit NSFW (lingerie, a girl fellating drum sticks, general weirdness). But the music is....interesting.

Yeah! I’ve been listening to Moon Hooch for a while. Some of their tracks are good, some I can’t stand.

Talking of NSFWNSFWNSFWNSFW and jazz related things, I’ve been listening to Jimmy McGriff a bit lately. Prime cut funk, but the album covers - great googly moogly.

One can only aspire to be as cool as a guy playing the sax with a traffic cone hanging out the end, held up with caution tape.

I’ve actually been listening to them a fair bit lately. I really like some of their stuff (other tracks are just kinda noise), and the concept of sticking a giant tube in the end of a saxaphone to get a new sound just makes me giggle. The two tracks I’ve been digging most are Red Sky (the whole Red Sky album is pretty solid) and Megatubes.

Also, on a related note I don’t know if you’re familiar with the group Lucky Chops, but similar to Moon Hooch they’re a brass(ish) group out of the NYC subway. I saw them back in June with my dad and brother (brass nerds and trumpet players themselves) and Chops had an electric bass clarinet that blew our minds. Depending on the pedal settings it could play either the funkiest of electric guitar reverbs or drop the bass deeper than the bottom range of the sousaphone. You can hear its diversity in Stand (which was also my favorite song of theirs), and it going straight buckwild with no other instruments (aside from the drums) in Daro and Charles’ Magnificent Journey. As a musician yourself I’m curious of your thoughts on the instrument and them as a whole.

Well, I’ll have to check this out. Thanks for the tip. I’m a trumpet player myself, ya know. That sousaphone player looks like he’s about 12 years old.

Couldn’t remember if you were trumpet or french horn (probably because when my dad played in a local symphony he played french horn). And yeah, the dude gets crazy on that thing.

My laptop speakers can’t even play the depth of the bass he’s putting out.
