Hot take incoming: Forza Horizon 3 is not fun

It’s fun to drive around, but I can’t help but feel that the AI at higher difficulties is over-powering. Call me a sore loser, but it’s hard to believe that the 1st-place car is always head-and-shoulders faster than the rest of the pack.

Back in the day one of my best cars in Gran Turismo 2 was a 4th gen Honda Prelude. I can’t remember what all I had done to it but I do remember using it outside of just the fwd classes.

That’s always the pisser for me on Cross Country races. I’m hitting the same jumps/spots/etc as them, and they somehow either fly right past me or further away from me.

And then, hitting the same jumps, the engine in my car starts misfiring and slowing down, whereas nobody else in the race seems to have that problem.

The one thing in the game I actually do hate is the Cross Country races (if you can’t tell, lol).

Its all about Grand Turismo! I still regularly play GT6 on my PS3. The only time I get angry about how the game works is when they force me to use “sport” tires. Shit just understeers into the grass no matter what car I’m driving.

I think they fucked with the physics to make drifting easier. Because your right. I think there’s way to much power over/understeer.

Oddly enough. I got the FM6 demo (I’m holding out for 7) and had a much easier time controlling drifts ¯\_()_/¯

How I play FH3: Do some races for an hour, then spend 6 hours buying random cars, lightly modifying them, and exploring the map and taking pictures/staging stunts. If I run out of money, begrudgingly do some more races until I can buy more cars and spent hours agonizing over modifications and photo angles.

I agree, but for a different reason. I can’t get tit to run more than five minutes on my PC before it decides to crash to desktop. I haven’t bothered to touch it in months because of this, sure every once in a while I come back to check if they’ve fixed the stability issues but its the same thing every time.

I only run the off-road stuff in the buggies in C-class. You can get the Polaris buggie boosted with rally tires and suspension right at the top of C-class. You’re going slow enough that you’re not always in the air unable to steer. Also AWD is a must if there is room in the PI total.

The other thing to do is keep the suspension tuning soft, but with strong rebound control. This way you still bounce over jumps, but when you land, you won’t keep bouncing - it just sticks.

My tunes for the FoST in FM6 are excellent.

My sequence of events when trying to play FH3:

Try to mimic that FoST tune in FH3 >roast tires through 3rd>understeer into Azerbaijan>exit to desktop>start NiceHash miner>read Oppo while mining Bitcoin and Etherium>wish I had pre-ordered Project Cars 2 instead of buying FH3.

I don’t disagree the way they have the PI system implemented is frustrating. But there is still plenty of room to have fun within it. And I have had a blast playing this version of Horizon. I have tried the prior two titles and HATED them. This one won me over.

An important factor in tuning is tire width, not compound. They mucked with the physics to make drifting easier-it didn’t work-so we are left with a system that favors tire width over compound; especially in the lower classes. It took me a long time to feel comfortable tuning cars in FH3 over FM6.

The AI is horrid though. No argument from me about that.

I am fully on board the hype-train for Forza 7. Though Toyota being dumb about their production cars makes me really sad.

I’ve only had one crash to desktop and I think it was because I was unintentionally running my mining overclock on my 1080Ti SC2 Hybrid (aka high memory clock with undervolted GPU).

I played FH1 to completion in a fwd FoST and MP4-12c. All I had to was adjust mods up or down to fit the PI system.

I only have my CPU overclocked at the moment and it is stable. Forza is the only game I have real issues with. I’m running only the recommended settings from NVIDIA as far as the graphic settings go for the game.

All drivers are up to date, OS runs on 250 GB SSD, Forza on the 500GB SSD. I’m pretty sure that one of the updates corrupted the game files, and I haven’t bothered to try re-installing yet since I have plenty of other games to play.

They have certainly moved more toward forcing more variety from players. I don’t mind it. Obviously, you want to be able to use only a single vehicle to complete the game. I don’t get why you’d want to do that, but I’m not criticizing your choice. T10 clearly wants to ‘encourage’ a more varied approach to playing the game.

I hated, HATED, PC1. I tried it because it was free on Games with Gold. No thank you.

I can live with 700 cars, even without Toyota, and a more limited track list over an insipidly complicated UI and infuriating physics. Sure it was pretty. But PC1 is not my cup of tea.

Forza motorsport 3 isn’t any different. no one raced below s class and nearly everyone used a 4WD car. If you raced in A class online and youd see a Honda Fit in the lobby, people would just leave. Turn 10 left some real broken stuff in their racing games back then.

But if you only raced in S class and above, then whats the point of all the other cars you want to try? Yeah I like using my Pagani Zonda, but geesh I want to use some other car.

I like turning a low tier car into a touring car. I learned today that every single player race in 7 will allow you to select a higher or lower number of laps. Still want them to implement changing to wet tires/better tire wear patterns

The map sucks. Australia is not where I think, “I want to go there to drive”. New Zealand would have been insanely good. Appalachia would have been incredible. With Australia, they might as well have done Kansas. Sure they put mountains there, but you can’t drive up the mountain. I don’t want flat, straight roads(sorry, long sweepers are basically straight).
