I'm not getting an E39

After looking over some of the responses, I’m afraid to say I’m going to back off of the E39 plan. I’d love to buy one, but I don’t know if I’d be able to get the time or resources with my busy schedule to take care of any of the issues if they were to come up. It’s too much of a risk.

Oh well, back to the original plan.

Would LOVE a full size Lexus sedan.

I know that Lexus reliability compared to German is of course better but in the scheme of things, both cars will be plenty old for issues to arise either way.

I’d rather fix the small issues that will arise with a straight six with an unbelievable support from its community rather than the V8 Lexus. I am also a German car fanboy so thats that.

You know what I’m going to pressure you towards the second one is in your possession right?

Bags.

I hate when people think Toyota/Lexus is infallible. They’re still machines and if they’re not taken care of they have problems. Even then, it’s not like they make a shock absorber that’s impervious to age or wear. Sure, German cars are “more expensive.” They all have their issues and faults. To put my money where my mouth is, I DD a German car; a car which has amassed over 13k miles in 5 months.

It’s not happening.

Not yet, at least.

Just an FYI, these are just as maintenance heavy. Timing belt every 60k miles. And while it always starts, little things that make things pleasant to drive will break often at this age.

-shudder-

I think I’d take my chances with an Alfa Romeo before buying an E60.

Hold my beer. I’m gonna see if I can do an engine swap between the two.

To be fair, you bought a German car also because you didn’t trust your other German car to be reliable enough to DD.

Get an E61 525(8?)xi with a stick. You’d be the king of oppo.

I lust for an LS400 so bad. They have a special kind of appeal here in France where diesel rules the land and I’m lucky if I hear a V8 once every 6 month.

Cheap enough, I was looking at things like fuel economy, tires, general maintenance. Those things are not cheap on an M car. It’s been very reliable apart from a design fault.

Exactly.

Every single car has issues, take care of it and it will take care of you.
