It’s not the naming, it’s the exterior design. With each iteration, Audi’s and VW’s are looking more like each other. The front grille is like that piece of gum in your mouth that’s lost 99% of its flavor.

Why is the R8 still called the R8 when a V8 option is no longer available? Is it in relation to its size now?

What would the RS version of the R8 be called?

Naming cars based on output instead of displacement is not crazy as a way to handle hybrid powertrains and whatnot, but making up random numbers to do it is infuriating and confusing. Why not just use the first digit of the output if they’re going to do this? Say, you can choose an A4 1 or A4 2, or an S4 3. That’s a lot better than A4 35, A4 45, or S4 55, or whatever it’s going to be.

It was called an R8 when it had a V10, too. Audi’s current nomenclature is based on body style and size or place in the range, not number of cylinders. For a while you could have an A4/S4 with 4, 6, or 8 cylinders, for just one example.

Nibby should have no problems understanding it. It’s just like back then with processors:

AMD K5 PR166 = 116 MHz ~ somewhat around Intel Pentium 166MHz (well not really, the K5 actually sucked).

No, audis makes sense because the names are as short as possible, and the numbers are only related to the model.

Because it was named after the R8 Le Mans Prototype not a cylinder count.

The hardcore version of the prior generation R8 was the R8 GT.

So the R8 and the A8 are similar in size? I didn’t think they were.

That’s where “or place in the range” comes in. Everything about it is dumb. They should have just called it the “RS” or something. After all, they didn’t call the TT the “T3".
