This is probably the cheapest running E39 M5 in the US. It has a rebuilt title though. Should I?

Looking at that interior. NO. I’ve been curious to see if this one makes reserve.

I’d like to know when it was rebuilt...was it written off recently or when the car was 2-3 years old?

That said, yes you should.

If you have $4K lying around to spend on it the first time it breaks, go for it. M cars are not cheap to maintain.

No. Not for that price with that title and with those seats. No.

I wouldn’t. I’d avoid any M car that isn’t clearly cared for and well maintained. If the current owner let the interior get to that state, what do you think the mechanicals look like? These cars are getting old now and if you go and buy one that’s not been kept up well you’re going to be disappointed.

That is quite mysterious. It sounds like the owner has done everything right, so why so cheap?

It doesn’t hurt to look, but I’d go with a LOT of questions and your tools to check everything out as thoroughly as possible. Or better, get a complete ppi for it.

The interior leather is 17 years old, hard to judge a car by old leather like that. My car is 2 years older, and I take great car of it - but my leather was trashed by the time it got to this age. Maybe I did something wrong with it, but the bolsters had worn through and both front seat bottoms were completely ripped open.

Oh, and you need to be able to do all the work yourself. That’s the only way a car like this makes any sense.

I’d pass at this price. I think you’d be better off spending more money on a clean title, better cared for car. Regardless, I’d go in with an expectation that you could need to drop $5k on repairs etc after purchase, so plan accordingly.

That’s a nice driver there. Just what I’m looking for but not ready to pull the trigger yet.

It’s got a full day left. The price will double between now and then, at least.

I’m watching it closely (I watch all the M5s on BaT ), but have a few things to deal with before I buy. In learning mode right now.

I like this one, though I don’t see that a few key service items have been done. If this stops in the low teens, someone is getting a good deal.
