So my drive from Connecticut to Philadelphia has not gone according to plan.

I hit stuff in road a while ago. I zip tied it back together and it was fine. While driving on the highway yesterday, it became un-fine. Now at dealership having it replaced.

How has your STI been? I’m looking at a ‘18 WRX limited but am still weary about some of the features compared to a FoST(sound system, a lot more just to get keyless, etc)

I really like my STi, it’s been lovely. It’s a 2016 and it’s a tank. I’ve driven it from CA to CT and all around the east coast. It’s seriously capable, and I love it. It’s only problem is that it’s faster and better than the roads around me. Driving it snow on winter tires is astounding. Do you have any specific questions?

Which audio system do you have? I like my music but I’ve seen bad reviews on the standard and was wondering if the Harmon was worth 2k. Also, I don’t know if you’ve sat in a WRX Limited but are those seats fine for autoX/windy roads as well as cruising?

Bummer. I have a similar situation in the making. Part of the plastic mudguard came loose, bent down low enough to scrape, then finally caught under the tire and ripped off. I have the front of it zip-tied into place, but it’s just a matter of time. I don’t think it was because of road debris. I think they didn’t put the clips in when they did the engine replacement.

I was having a Subaru dealership transfer a Hyper Blue STi in for me. The day it arrived, despite it being earmarked for me, it was bought by an employee of the dealership. This did not make me happy.

aftermarket is always the way to go with audio! Newer cars make this harder but still.

I don’t know about changing the entire sound system in a brand new, $30k car though.

They just charge too much for the factory installed stuff. I am sure with the upgrade budget of $2-3k they charge for it, you could get something professionally installed that still keeps the form/fit of the original. Or alternatively, just swapping the speakers in the doors can make a huge difference vs stock.

I had a 14 WRX and now a regular Focus. The WRX gripped all the time. Even the non ST focus can spin with the fwd. I’d go WRX / sti just for the AWD regardless of weather

What about for interior features?

It had an interior?

I had a messed up back and the seat was the best I’ve had.

The speakers were fine.

Nothing mattered past the performance. It was awesome.

My biggest thing is if I’m spending 30k on a car I want to at least have some pretty decent features. I wasn’t impressed with the radio(had no bass and was funny) on the test drive but I didn’t get a chance to mess with it.

I have the premium stereo in my STi, and it’s... Ok. Plenty of bass, but not that nice sounding. Not bad either, though. Bluetooth works fine, too.

Never tried it. If you take some time with the equalizer, I think you’d be happy enough with the premium stereo.

Premium stereo (Harmon Kardon) is 2k extra on top of the limited trim. Ug.

stock audio is pretty bad.

HK sounds pretty good.

The value judegement is up to you.

It’s not that hard to swap all th espeakers, I’ve done it on mine and it does sound much better after you do.

What does t cost to swap all the speakers?

Kinja'd!!! "uofime-2" (uofime-2)
08/23/2017 at 13:30, STARS: 0

... that of course entirely depends on what speakers you buy!

you’ll need 2 sets of 2 way 6.5inch speakers, nice ones will be about 150 a pair

1 set of 7/8" tweeters with an inline cross over. figure 50-100 for these.

The door and tweeter on these are wired in parallel. If you feel like pulling new wires you could get a component set instead of separate 2-ways and tweeters for the front

adapter brackets for the speakers pairs are something line 20$ a pair and you can make tweeter brackets from 1.50$ plumbing straps

call it around 500$ all said and done

Yeah, that’s why others will recommend aftermarket.
