Been saying for years, if some one puts a small truck on the market I’d buy one. Now all I ask is give it 4x4/AWD and enough capability to tow a small, say 16 foot, boat and ill sign up!

Why does that article completely ignore the existence of the Colorado/Canyon?
Also what’s with Hyundais american south west city names? Tucson, Santa Fe, Santa Cruz,Tiburon.

If it calls a Taco and a Ridgeline too big, then the Colorado/Canyon are definitely too large. That being said, I think the small truck market lapsed due to crossovers/SUVs.

I’m in a similar boat with the Jeep pickup. I’ve been saying if someone makes a 6MT/diesel truck that isn’t huge I’ll buy it. Problem is my budget isn’t going much above $30k and I’m assuming that combo is gonna be $40k+.

Ditto on the jeep. But you know that sob is gonna be well over 40k. Even if a cheaper less specs model exists no lot will carry it. My hope is to see a well Speced version of the Hyundai in the mid 20's to lower 30's.

The Scrambler is going to be just as large as the other midsize trucks. In the Truckyeah article they mention the frame is 205" long. That’s right up there with other midsize trucks which are usually about 210-225" in overall length.

I think Hyundai would be crazy to try and bring a midsize into the market. All the current options will be there, plus the Jeep Scrambler, Ranger, and the Frontier will most likely be new by then. The Ridgeline is doing ok, but nowhere near the volume of the Tacoma and GM trucks.
Hyundai needs to bring something different. It needs to be smaller than the other midsizes (under 200" long), and offer a good fuel economy option (>30 mpg hwy) without requiring diesel or electrification to keep the cost down. It does however have to grow from the size of the Santa Cruz concept which is about 180" long to incorporate a full size back seat. Maintaining some of styling from the concept will also be important.

That’s fine. It’ll still fit in my tall and narrow yet deep garage. An F150/Silverado/Ram won’t.

The ranger is going to be same size as canyon/colorado. Who is going to buy a pick up smaller than that? Base price on a colorado is 20k, base price for a tucson which the santa cruz should share a platform with is 22k. Santa Cruz will probably be more then that when all is said and done. So you’re really telling me that a large portion of people will buy a less capable truck that costs more over a more capable truck that costs less? I don’t see it happening.

That depends on what capability you’re looking for. For fuel efficiency and maneuverability, a smaller pickup is far more “capable”.
An AWD Tucson tops out in the low $30k range. You have to spend $30k just to get 4WD in a WT crew cab Colorado.
The compact and subcompact CUV segments are booming - even with their lesser capability.
