I mis-read a question and immediately knew the answer.

The post was asking which car resembles the Miata’s lovely character but with four doors. (The original poster is 100% correct with his suggestion of the older M5 btw.)

Just looking at the headline I figured it was going to somehow be a question about which four seat car has the most useless back seats. (Don’t know where that came from but it’s what I jumped to.)

Well, this answer I know. I pulled the back seats out of my 911 for weight reasons, and in doing so had to attempt to get back there. Not sit comfortably. Just access it long enough to pull it all out. I took no pics of it but found this online:

To my knowledge it’s got four seats for insurance reasons that I do not understand. However I can confirm that children can’t even use those seats so forget the carpool lane on your commute as well.

What else is out there that’s worse?

There’s always worse.

It’s the best way to transport three people when you only want to go somewhere with two.

Prelude rear seats are pretty useless. Especially the 4th gen. My Lab takes up the entire backseat area.

Front engined Porsches had it worse than the 911 because they had that big bulky transaxle taking up the middle portion of the seats. If you have hips wider than a 12-year-olds’ you cant sit in them. In order: 928, 944, 968

Do all TT’s have these..? I’ve driven a friend’s a good 50 miles and would have gone to my grave thinking it was a two seater

Oh my god that’s awful.

My C4 Corvette’s seats don’t point exactly forward due to the transmission being in the way with the car being so low. It’s not always comfortable but you can hold your leg against it in a big turn. It’s tolerable.

What you posted is not.

Anyone know what the insurance thing for four seats is all about?

It seems it depends on the generation and maybe options package. The one I originally had pictured was the TTRS, if any model wouldn’t have rear seats you’d think it would be that one...

Four seaters are generally less sporty and fast and less likely to be driven recklessly. As far as the insurance companies are concerned, 4 seats = safe boring family car.

Honda decided to put back seats in the CR-Z outside of North America. They are OK I guess, if you don’t have a head.

I don’t know about worse, but the 86/BRZ has some pretty pathetic back seats.

We put four adult humans in my 968 for a 40 mile round trip once. Emphasis on “once”. The steering wheel was in my chest and my head was nearly touching the top of the windshield, but we reluctantly proved that it could be done. I suspect that if we got in an accident the airbag probably would have broken multiple ribs, probably puncturing my lungs and heart.

And yes, it had the 6-speed manual, further complicating the drive.

Have ridden in the back of a 944; can confirm they are pretty useless.
