Kinja'd!!!

My wife has been a patient lady, but she wants the Tercel gone. And at this point, so do I. One way or another, it’s going away this week.

I have had numerous interested parties, but ultimately no sale. One guy came out yesterday and looked it for over an hour, then told me he didn’t have any money, and THEN sent four apology texts late last night.

Options are:

1) take out the front seats and scrap it

2) ... ?

3) I don’t know.

Surely a close Opponaught would pay you scrap value at least?

You might be able to donate it for a tax write-off. Better than nothing, I suppose?

Donate for a tax write off or scrap it.

See which is a better option

benjrblant has it right. I had an old 88 Fox wagon that sat for a year in the apartment parking lot. When they threatened to tow it, I donated it to a local women’s shelter. They came and towed it away, and I got a tax deduction. Your local NPR station might take them as well.

Maybe donate to local cheer/ footbal/ marching band / team. They can host a fundraiser where people pay $5 to hit it with a sledgehammer.

Sad way for it to go, but might bring more good than scrap. Won’t bring much back to your wallet though.

Man I’d pick it up but then my driveway would be more full of Toyota’s than yours!

Are we talking starter, alternator, or a new engine?

A friend bought an old Protege for $1300 a couple summers ago. Maybe a month into ownership, he discovered both rear strut towers were completely rusted out: one had been patched/welded up already, but the other had a gaping hole big enough to see the rear tire from inside the trunk! That side was held up by – I kid you not – a chunk of someone’s old solid wood bed frame...

Anyway, he parted it out and scrapped the rest! A bunch of us stripped the entire interior bare in a couple hours, after which a scrapyard tow truck came to take the rest. The cash from that, plus the cash he made from selling the parts off, totaled to more than he paid for the car.

Food for thought.
