Drove my buddy’s ‘97 GMC Sierra today. 5.7 with Flowmasters. Jesus, it’s addicting. I really, really need to either put a V8 into my Dakota, or get another truck with a V8. There’s just something about a truck with a V8.

The wife’s gx470 is always so much sweeter to drive aurally compared to my truck which makes a noise I call “the mighty moo”.

skip the “plain” v8, and go with a v8 with a manual behind it...........

I felt the same way after my first test drive of an E9X M3.

My truck’s already a stick shift. Believe me, I want a V8/5 speed Kipper.

My Sierra (’95, 5.7) has the stock single exhaust, but with a Thrush muffler. It was like that when I bought it, so I’d have to listen to a fully stock one to tell the difference, but aside from maybe a little bit of drone, it seems pretty normal-sounding to me.

Or so I thought... Turns out, if I drive with the passenger side window open (which doesn’t happen much because crank windows), it actually has a nice raspy note that I never even knew was there. That window has to be open, though, as that’s the side where the tailpipe is.

His is LOUD. He ditched the cats, and it’s true duals all the way out the back. It’s got like 3.5" tips on it, with I *think* 2.5" pipes.

Were you still thinking about replacing the LC?

Always and never. My wife suggested her getting another 3rd row something and I take her gx. Not the worst idea... But a gx tis no 80 series.

1st gen Highlander had a 3rd row option, for people with no legs or torso.

V8s are addicting. I went about 3 years without a V8 until I got the Bronco. Now I’m thinking I need to make up for lost time by getting a second V8.

I would think a GMC with a L86 would sound quite *noice*.

I mean, the Vettes and Camaros with LT1s sound almost like pure ‘Murica.

Especially with a nice exhaust setup. It’s got me dreaming.

The dual mode adjustable exhaust on the Vettes and Camaros are excellent for when you need an extra dose of aural FREEDOM.

Yeah, that option got into my Camaro order for obvious reasons.

Hate the 1st Gen. Not a fan of that motor ( we had 2 in our family both with bad valve guides). Hate the 2nd Gen too actually, bad diff seals always.

My brother (who lives outside of Provo) still has his first gen. Apparently hasn’t given them any problems yet.

Did not know they had that. I haven’t done any research on the newer Camaros/Vettes. My heart lies with the older stuff.

Can confirm, V8 trucks are quite nice. Even stock my 5.3 sounds excellent at full throttle.

I have a bit of experience with V8 trucks. I think only three of my dad’s trucks weren’t V8.

The S10 he had before I was born

The ‘87 Ranger he had when I was really young

The ‘05 Ranger he had from 2011 until 2014.

A simple mod that makes it sound even better in the cab is to cut the exhaust at the rear axle. I did it after bashing the tip pretty bad on a rock and like it. It’s not enough to make it much louder while idling but lets a little more be heard in the cab when you step on it.

I’ve got a 40 series flow master and the pph long tube headers into a single 3" on mine, it sounds nice. 5.9 w the mopar pcm, so she screams a bit as it gets into the higher rpms. I tried it without the cat and it was a bit too loud for me, the cat mellows it out just enough, but not too much.

I vote V8 in the Dakota. If you think that GMC sounded good with an exhaust, wait until you get a mopar V8 in there with exhaust. Drooling just thinking about it!
