My 2013 Outback is now all mine. This is the first time that I’ve held the title to a car that I bought new in my hands. Through a comedy of errors at the PA DMV we never actually got a copy of the title to the Fit we bought new in 2008 and ended up trading it in on the this Outback without one. This feels good.

huh. in MI they send you the title right away, and just list any secured parties (lenders) on it. when you pay off the loan they send you a release of lien letter which you can attach to the title and transfer it if you sell the car.

Each state is different. I think in the majority of them the lienholder holds the title until they release the lien, but there are still several, including MI, where the owner gets to hold the title with the lien on it.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to the tax office. Did they give you a sticker there or just a temporary registration? If you don’t have the sticker, I assume that and the title will come in the mail if you filled out the forms right.

Hmm. I’d go back and check. It wouldn’t surprise me if they don’t do the title right there, but since you got the tags you should be all set to get one printed and in your hands.

It’s a great feeling to get the title to the car. In fact, I got the M3's title 2 years ago today.

Lol yeah clearly there is no more room for more than 4 letters. I’m guess the reason must be historical - probably the computer systems 30 years ago couldn’t handle more than a few letters to save space and they just never changed it.
