Kinja'd!!!

No more chocolate cake vodka for me. We went shopping and I decided to try this since I like regular black so much. Here goes...

*takes a sip*

Hmm. It’s ok I guess. The smokiness is maybe a little harsh, but tolerable. It’s definitely nowhere near as smooth as the Green Label, but I can hang with it.

And who the hell are you

The chicken knows, yeah
Just how it goes, yeah
It’s what he bought and sold

Green was amazing. I’ve never had Blue.

I’m currently choking down black rum because I needed a drink after the day I’ve had and I have nothing to mix it with.

Well, considering what I had last night, I think you’re ahead.

Although... Now I kinda want to put some of that chocolate vodka in a thick milkshake.

Actually, I think I just want a milkshake.

I’m all set now, I found a can of ginger beer hiding at the back of the pantry. Now enjoying a Dark n’ Stormy.

I almost picked up some ginger beer at the liquor store. There were a couple from the same company. One was ginger beer with lime and the other was with honey and lemon. I passed on it because they were $5 for a 4-pack of cans and that seemed way too much.

That’s a lot. I pay like $4 for a 6-pack of Goslings.

I wasn’t expecting it to be so melodic, though. I was surprised.

Yeah, it was too much. If I could try a single can to determine if it’s worth it, I might give it a shot.

Gold was amazing when I picked up a bottle for ~37$ US after a trip to canada. I wanted to buy them out of the stuff. And if you get a chance, the traveller’s series can be pretty good too. I think I had the “Silk road” blend and it was nicely spiced with some fruity tartness to it.

Give monkey shoulder a try next time you buy a bottle. It’s another blended scotch but for just 30$/bottle it’s very solid.

WOW. Green was so smooth that I didn’t realize how much I had drank, so I can probably never try Blue.

The confusing part about this is why you’re drinking blended in the first place.

Well, the simple answer is that I don’t limit myself based on some arbitrary crap. If I like a blended scotch, I like it. If I like a car with an automatic transmission, I like it. I don’t waste time worrying if it’s the culturally accepted choice. Life is too short to limit yourself just because someone else might disagree with your choices.

Good answer, and I agree with the sentiment! I didn’t have a broader reason in mind, other than my own palate, which I suppose is arbitrary to you but empirical to me: I’ve rarely, if ever, tasted a blend that was remotely as complex or as interesting as an equivalent single malt. They seem to me to carry next to no regional character or sense of age, just a house style that always consists of varying degrees of “smooth-ish.” Fair enough though: if one of those styles hits you just right, it works! It just never has for me. Admittedly, I’ve tasted plenty of single malts that I’d never bother with again, but I’ve never had a blend I would, always excepting being captive in airports and planes. I’m willing to be proved wrong, and lord knows I’ve tried enough times, but it just hasn’t happened.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had plenty of single malts that I’ve liked. I just have this habit that when I find something I really like, I stick with it forever. Once I tried JWB I discovered that I really liked it and it became my go to. It was the same with cigars. I used to be more adventurous in trying different sticks, but I settled on one that I really like (My Uzi Weighs A Ton) and haven’t strayed much from them in the last few years.
