Progress! I’m about 1/2 way fine in the living room right now. I have help so it’s going much faster than doing it be myself.

That’s some pretty wood.

Thanks! It’s hickory. I am loving the look.

Ha try that in Hawaii haha, everything is warped and no house is level and true. I have helped three people do various floors etc.. in Honolulu on old houses and it turns into a custom mess! Looks good!

Thanks! It’s hard work for sure. The wall wasn’t straight so the first row was fun. This house is amazingly level and square, one of the better ones I’ve owned.

It looks good so far. Too bad you couldn’t get the “curtains to match the drapes”, as the walls and ceiling are different from the floor. But, compromises must be made sometimes on older homes.

Mhmmm ... Tasty!

How does an unlaminated, real wood floor look after actually walking on it? I would like to put wood floors in my non-existant future house, but don’t want the floors looking like shit after actually using them. But nor do I want finished wood because everyone has it. And tile is too cold. And carpet gets gross.

We were trying to get a wood that had some contrast to the walls that are tongue and groove Doug fir. Oak would have really matched well but I think it would have looked weird.

It looks great. Typical residential wood floors are good for 10-20 years between serious refinishing. Refinishing would be a sand smooth and recoat with fresh poly.

Carpet is gross, that’s what we removed.

Can you spot-repair it when you or a trespasser harm the wood without it looking super obvious that it’s been repaired?

Yes you can do spot repairs but it’s difficult. We fixed some oak flooring at our last house. Better to not inflict that level of harm on your floor.

So if someone were to scuff up a section you’re better off just leaving it alone until you can’t live with a section and then do the whole thing?

Put a throw rug over the scuffed section.
