My friend owns a 2014 Impreza that’s been problem free over 100k miles. But his girlfriend bought a 2016 Crosstrek, which should be effectively identical except it’s had A.C. and major brake problems over a few thousand miles...

At first he thought it would be fine but then the problems as outlined above. Aswell as, One day every warning light was on. Now the infotainments tweaking out.

Maybe they are built at different facilities?

If the Crosstrek is a pre-2017 model it should have been built in Gunma, Japan, along with the Impreza. If it’s a 2017 model it may have been built in Indiana

I guess they are bound to have problems when they produce that many cars.

Yikes, I thought about buying one before I decided to get a Miata. Looks like I dodged a bullet.

Miata sounds like a better choice regardless

I have a friend with a 2012 impreza hatch who just passed a 100k miles. Been trying to convince him to at least look at Mazda and Honda, but chances are he’ll buy a crosstrek that was a service loaner. Hope he doesn’t regret it.

I really miss my old 2002 Subie Impreza, but they’ve really gone downhill in recent years to me...both styling wise (super bland) and quality wise. I’ve got a friend who used to be my old boss that has a 2nd or 3rd model year Crosstrek and it’s on it’s 3rd engine because of that oil issue....all replaced under warranty...

There seems to be a lot of inconsistency in Subaru quality from ‘12 on when their sales started taking off. I’m guessing they’ve had trouble scaling up production.

My wife drives a leased 2016 Impreza hatch that she loves very much. She puts very few miles on it. We’ve had it for 16 months and it might just now be approaching 10k miles. She talks about buying it at the end of the lease and keeping it for a long time. It’s been a good car but I’m much more like “let’s see what other lease deals are around when this lease is up.”
