Watch as our volunteer crew made up of veteran railroaders, experienced mechanics and new recruits wrangle our 200-ton steam locomotive back on the rail. This was no easy way to spend a Saturday. The 765 was temporarily renumbered “767" to honor the engine’s unique place in history :

The numbering was getting my attention though.

The front of the loco and left hand side of the cab said 767.

Kinja'd!!!

The right side of the cab said 765.

Kinja'd!!!

Then as it pulled into the shed, the left side of the cab said 765

Kinja'd!!!

I’m confused.

And from the memories of my childhood, a much lower quality video of fixing a derailment by throwing random crap under the wheels:

According to the internet at some point in 2016 it was renumbered to match its sister (and long scraped) locomotive no. 767.

Yes I get that. I have the Youtube video description at the top.

But the loco is wearing two different sets of numbers on the same day, at the same derailing in the same video. As can be seen from the time on the video.

at 2:29 it’s 767

at 6:16 it’s 765 on the other side

at 10:05 it’s 765 (the side that said 767 at 2:29)
