Over the past three months I have bought a
a $700 Saturn
The $100 Saturn was
a 2001 Saturn SL1
that looked like to got into a fight, and lost. However I did have some zip ties in my garage and that seemed to do the job just fine. I sold it for $1000.
The $200 has more paint fade than actual paint on the roof, and some nasty scabs on the hood. But when you have a car that cost less than a used Chinese scooter, you learn to live with the little things. I put a new wheel bearing on it, and surprise of surprises! It drives fine! Even the tires were brand new. That one I re-sold for $1600.
Saturns are now cheaper than Chinese rice on a per pound basis. Since I am an unrepentant tightwad, I decided to write about it.

The Outlook XE is noticeably cheaper than it’s lambda platform mates, which says a bit. Finding any early lambda in good shape is a rare find.

mine was a 98 and unfortunatly was the 4speed auto but i still had memorable times in it. like when i used a convoy of semi trucks rolling east on I-80 in the middle lane as a slalom course

Stick or auto, those cars were lightweight, and handled better than I think people remember—

the only problem with the auto was it was super lazy but yeah the lightness was real, if i hadnt need the extra cash when we bought the explorer i would have kept it and used it for autocross and rallycross

I still badly want a nice Saturn SC. Some nice wheels and lowering springs would be fantastic. Also, suicide doors rear doors ftw.

You’re describing one of the best cars I ever owned! 2001 single cam coupe I drove until 2008. IHI turbo on a home-built manifold, methanol injection, KYBs, Chinese wheels, and the obligatory fart can. I loved that car. Would never buy another one for fear of ruining the great memories!

About 10 pounds. It ran pretty well, considering it was built out of junk in the parking lot! Ran low 14s, when the methanol was good. Drove it for 2 years like that. Only problem was that it ate throttle position sensors. Apparently, they don’t react well to methanol!

10 lbs is pretty impressive. My $400 turbo setup on my Miata pushed 8 pounds with a junkyard 3000GT turbo. That was as far as I could go with the fuel injector/FPR setup I had.
What were you doing for EMS?

I had 2 additional injectors in the charge pipe with a stand-alone controller. The controller read MAP, tach, and throttle position. The stock computer and controls were all left in place, so off-boost it acted just like stock. Basically, I just added fuel to compensate for manifold pressure over atmospheric. And then there was the methanol system... I actually ran water in it most of the time, but would run meth (lol) when I wanted to do stupid things. I’d lean the gas out a bit if I was running meth, which it seemed to like. She was hard on plugs, but overall it seemed to accidentally come together for a really strong running little car! It pretty much tuned itself. Oh, this was all on an old Thuderbird IHI turbo, which is bigger than a T25 but smaller than a normal-ish T3.
Do you still have your turbo Miata? Those are rad!

I sold it quite a while back. It was a 1991 1.6 liter with 1.8 injectors and a rising rate fuel pressure regulator. It spooled up instantly right to 8psi, no intercooler or BOV so it made some DOPE noises. Charge pipe was chevy truck radiator hose. It was fun times.
