I’m having a nerd moment.

Kinja'd!!!

Before 2007 Nissan in Japan used 2 dealer names called “Nissan Blue Stage”, & “Nissan Red Stage”. After the merge with Renault it changed to “Nissan Red and Blue Stage”. Nissan Red Stage was a result of mixing older sales channels form under “Nissan Prince Store” after merging with Prince Motors.

There was also “Nissan Cherry Store” previously known as “Nissan Cony Store”. This network assumed operations of small Kei Car builder Aichi Machine Industry Co. They make the Cony, Giant, Guppy. In 1970 that network was renamed Nissan Cherry.

Nissan Blue Stage came from mixing older sales channels called “Nissan Store” in 1955, then renamed “Nissan Bluebird Store” in 1966. In 1965 “Nissan Motor Store” was established.

In 1970 Nissan set up a store called “Nissan U Store”, this chain sold used cars (+ auctions). This chain is still maintained today. The whole purpose of this system was that each store sold cars to customers that were a certain size & price point.

If there’s something I’d like to do in my life, it’s own several newer JDM Nissan Cubes.

Note that Toyota has five separate dealer networks in the Japanese market - Toyota, Toyopet, Corolla, Netz, and Lexus.

Some models are shared unchanged between all of the dealer networks (except Lexus), some models are reskinned for a different dealer network, and some models just aren’t available in some networks.

Wow. Apparently market rules are completely different that culture. Such fragmentation of brands would mean death in the American market.

It kinda reminds of how GM has separate dealers for Cadillac.

They’re trying to do that now, but I still see lots of Buick/GMC/Cadillac dealerships. But GM has consolidated a lot from the days when they owned the American market and could flood it with a brand for every taste.

Yeah, I don’t have any combined ones near me, but I do know that they need to get some separation between their brands if they’re really going to convince people Lincoln means luxury again.
