Kinja'd!!!

Paid off the remainder of what I owed yesterday, just waiting on the title from my credit union. Managed to get it payed off nearly a year ahead of schedule. Time to start modifying.

Always a fantastic feeling, especially coupled with the ideas of what else that payment money can go towards now. Also congrats on getting it done early.

Congratulations! That’s quite an achievement to pay it off early.

the tS kit from Subar for cosmetics, full Nameless exhaust (headers, mid-pipe, axel-back with 5" mufflers), PST carbon fiber drive shaft, Exedy light weight flywheel. Still looking at options fore wheels, tires, brakes, and intake.

Nameless doesn’t make headers anymore. Besides, the Tomei UEL beats it in the midrange and up top (I had both, both custom mapped, both tested on the same dyno), only downside is you have to some to terms with that UEL “bro call” :(

Go bananas and get some 200TW tires haha. But if you want them to actually last and be more affordable, I really like the BFG Sport Comp 2.

I’ve been able to find a few places that still carry their headers. I really wan’t to stay with equal length. Only turbo Subarus should have UEL headers.

Funny, turbo Subarus do better with EL headers lol

The thing I cannot get over with the NA EL headers, is that the torque dip is ALWAYS still there, even a little bit on the ACE 350. The nameless is downright gutless below 3000 rpm

Oh shit! You’re in Oregon! Photo looks like Western Oregon too. I’m in Beaverton. Anyway here was the comparison between the two headers, don’t get too hung up on numbers, stock car did south of 150 on this dyno.

Congrats! I’d caution against making it too loud though. After I had a full exhaust on my BRZ it became a little tiresome to drive.

I work in the Beaverton area, but live in Gresham. I’m not super hung up on numbers, main reason I want equal length is for the sound. Crawford has some blocks that increase the length of the intake runners that help with the power drop in the mid-range. I’m used to the car already being high strung so I like all my power up top.

She’s getting retired from daily duty pretty soon. Shopping around for something a bit more comfortable for my commute.

Well, with a little bit of warning (my Miata/motorbikes are the normal daily drivers) I could probably meet up over a lunch break and show you what this feels like ;)

Dotted line is a nameless EL with cosworth tune, solid line is now.

Boosted? How reliable is it with a turbo if so?

Kinja'd!!! "Decay buys too many beaters" (decay)
08/18/2017 at 17:12, STARS: 0

Yeah, its a Garrett GTX2867R and a top mount setup. It is only running 7psi so not really stressing the motor much, but the turbo has a LOT more headroom if I choose to turn up the heat a bit. As it sits, running a similar power to most of the supercharged guys with lower boost and consequentially lower cylinder pressures, it should be fairly reliable. That said, it is an NA>T conversion so OEM type reliability is not to be expected. I have a couple different vehicles to choose from and a spare FA20 on a stand in my shop just in case.

Funny thing is... it knocks a lot less boosted than it did NA on the factory tune!

Interesting. I was planning on getting a spare motor at somepoint as well, so I could build on it then swap it in at a later point while still being able to drive the car. How much did you pay for the spare?

08/18/2017 at 17:17, STARS: 0

I scored a pretty sweet deal on mine, 2015 FA20 long block with 15K miles, all accessories, and a spare transmission set me back $800.

08/18/2017 at 17:24, STARS: 0

Thats not even half of what I was expecting, I may need to shop around. I want to know if the blocks are the same between the BRZ and WRX. Could probably build one to handle a decent amount of boost by swapping over the internals from the WRX if the blocks are the same.

08/18/2017 at 17:28, STARS: 0

I researched this a year or so back, my dream setup is a FA20dit bottom end with FA20d4-s heads. Would be awesome to have the stronger rotating assembly off the WRX and the significantly better heads and fuel system used in the BRZ.

Long story short: No, it doesn’t work :(

Damn, that’s too bad. Subaru could build a really nice car if they put in the effort to make them work together.

I don’t know, one of the things I love about the FA20d4-s is that the high compression means low boost makes big differences. I am running modestly more power than a stock STi with 13psi less boost pressure and 0.5L less displacement.
