When you "no turn on red" literally right in front of a cop.

Kinja'd!!!

I’m sure the cop was like “really, you’re going to make me pull you over?”

Yea I did the same thing just after, everyone here does. But damn at least look for a cop before you do something illegal.

The whole stop only lasted 30 seconds.

My friend on FB made a post the other day. He’s a cop. Basically he had to write a ticket for someone running a stop sign right in front of him. The car passed him and then blew through the sign

Why have the sign at all if it’s a thing that can be done safely?

I do not doubt it. Some people have no spacial awareness.

Genuinely don’t know. Its a right turn only off an exit ramp, with another light on the other side of the highway for the ramps. Plenty of time between signals to go.

Is it facing a green arrow? Usually no turn on red in intersections with perfectly fine visibility is so you dont try to sneak a right while left turners have a green arrow. Green arrow in a drivers mind means go and dont yield for anything so I can see how accidents would happen if there were right turners as well.

Nope! It faces a on ramp for the highway and even turning right gets you to a green light.

Its seriously about 50/50 between people turning right on red and not.

I feel we probably ask ourselves this question far too often while driving.

Maybe it’s time for the local road authority to reevaluate the intersection. Unless there’s an issue with visibility or something, the sign might be doing more harm than good.

Completely agree, there should be no question about visibility. I have a few of these in my town that cause pretty big backups. And on the contrary, if you’re driving late at night with no one around...you really have to wait for the light cycle? Give us a break!

I’ve also done this, by accident, because it was dark at night and the no turn on red sign was in a weird angle at an unfamiliar intersection.

This was also when I was a dumb college kid with a Jewfro, driving a red Integra GSR, with certain items of questionable legality in a backpack in the back seat, and the reason I was at an unfamiliar intersection was because I was on my way to purchase certain other items of questionable legality.

Thankfully all I got was a warning about the turn on red.

Means the person either reeealy wasn’t paying attention, or they didn’t know what they were doing was illegal. Either way, they probably needed to be pulled over for their own future safety.

There are 2 really hard to miss signs its just that everyone does every morning. They just really were not paying attention to miss that cop ... that they turned in front of.
