As an American currently living in Spain, I’m deeply shocked by the news coming form Barcelona. My heart is with the people of that magnificent city, and this whole amazing country.
The Spanish spirit is strong and resilient. Spain will endure.

It’s a sad statement on the times that this didn’t even shock me. It was more of a calm “fuck I hope they didn’t kill anyone.” These events are seeming so common now that I almost expect another every few weeks.

Yes. It’s great. I love everything. The places, the weather, the food, the people, the laid back attitude.
I don’t have a lot of time, as my work assignment requires an average of 10 hours a day, but the Andalucía province is a place I enjoy a lot.
I’m thinking about staying here, forever. To explore and enjoy the whole country.

Interestingly, the attack in Berlin around Christmastime was made less lethal by automatic braking systems in the truck. The sensors detected the collisions and the lack of braking by the driver, so the truck stopped itself.
Honestly, why there aren’t barriers in place for these large pedestrian areas is beyond me. I realize that it would be huge task, but post-Beirut 1983 lots of large, cement planters started showing up at important locations.

One attacker was caught and arrested and the other one was shot dead in a crossfire with the Spanish police. Hopefully there’sno more and the situation can cool down.

Stay safe out there.
Always be aware of surroundings, vehicle access, shelter areas, etc...
It doesn’t have to take over your life.
Authorities can help with bollards, barriers, etc...
