And with the soul of the many parts and service people we have on Oppo, what is the most egregiously overpriced OEM part for your car? I mean - what has a price that is ridiculously more expensive than it ought to be?

Kinja'd!!!

For the Jeep Renegade, I vote for the Shifter Knob Cap. It’s a piece of plastic, part# 5VU21SLUAA

The silver paint is wearing off mine, and I was looking to see whether it was worth it to buy a new one.

List price is $199

Cheapest I found was $120 or so.

What’s yours?

The variable valve timing solenoid for the Focus SVT is like $700 which is annoying because they break fairly frequently and there’s no aftermarket alternative.

I come across things from time to time, but can’t pull anything great off the top of my head. So I dug in to find one and it took about 10 seconds.

3D5857607F 6C3 - the roof grab handle for a VW Phaeton lists at $223.33

Try a water-cooled alternator on a W8! lol

But that’s premium shit I guess though.

Or.... just about any critical bolt/door clip on almost any Chrysler product.

On my Corolla the most overpriced thing so far is this security blinking light

The plastic clips that hold it in broke and I went to the dealership for a new one and it’s $108. I can’t seem to find it anywhere else either. I think I’ll be glueing it or something.

Honda wants to charge me $892 for a trunk lid.

That sucks, they can’t be repaired by a third party?

Should be a really easy find at a junk yard / pick a part yard.

Toyota seems (or seemed to be at the time) very good about reusing parts, so even if the LX450 was relatively low production and only sold for two model years, most parts are interchangable with either a Camry, Land Cruiser, LS400, or something similar from the era.

But $4,544 for a solid cast-iron short block and rotating assembly (11101-69106) is just stupid.

Nope. They’re $300-400 used a lot of the times too.

Whoever made the power steering system in my old XT6 needs to be publically humiliated. A less-than-12 quart bottle for their fluid cost me $27. And when I say less than, I mean half of a typical bottle found on stores. Oh, and the entire system itself? Let’s just say it would TOTAL the car. REPEATEDLY. TEN TIMES OVER.

It’s a pretty rare security package. The last junkyard I went to didn’t even have one Corolla of my generation.

Kinja'd!!!

See that little black disc with the two lines that covers up the tow hook mount? Center of the image, between the red and the grey portions? $38.

Until I find one of these at a junkyard (places online don’t want to sell this part separate from the bumper cover), I’ll live with the hole. Instead of looking at the white foam of the bumper I just shot some black spray paint in the opening to make it less noticeable.
