Kinja'd!!!

A new PC should probably come first at this point. With it hitting 106 when playing the Sims and 86 degrees just sitting at idle (although not all the time, just at certain points), I’m getting tired of this. Yes, there’s new thermal paste on there. Stupid six year old computer.

Needs more liquid.

That’s the plan for the next build. Don’t want to buy a cooler that won’t fit a different socket size, though, so I’ll hold out for now.

a soldi air cooler is much better for most gamers than liquid cooling unless you’re OC-ing

something like Noctua or be quiet! ... my 6700K idles in th 20s and never gets above 70C

Thinking of doing an overclocked Ryzen build, but that’s good advice.

I feel you. Going to see what Coffee Lake looks like (I think it’s being introduced Monday?), and then will decide how to go on a new system. My i5-2500 has issues so it’s probably about time. Temps are fine, but I’m getting likely overclock related bluescreens and don’t want to dial it back.

Oh damn, is it? I want to be excited about it, but I feel like I’m just going to be disappointed.

I don’t have high expectations. With no new process, and an architecture that had already been optimized, minimal gains seem likely, but figured may as well see what Intel’s got. Also doesn’t sound like there will be immediate availability after the announcement, so they’d need to show something worth waiting for.

Yeah, Ryzen is still sounding like the way to go right now. With Intel’s prices and the current shitshow that is the Kaby Lake X chips, and I don’t feel like giving them my money.

Since we’re being practical do you really need that much more horsepower to justify buying a new rig? If you’re going to continue playing Sims get a good air cooler for not too much money and save the rest for a camera. Also SSD if you don’t have one already, fresh install of Windows and you’re good to go for another year or two.

Oh, the Sims is just an example. I just finished Wolfenstein. I do play more intensive games than that.
