At the very least Lexus deserves credit for not having the touchscreen look like they forgot to add it till the rest of the design was finished.

The fourth gen’s interior has aged remarkably well.

Neat post. Interior design has gotten much better. The one thing that I think has gotten worse is shifters. The LS500 is a complicated mess. It’s an automatic transmission. You should automatically be able to use it without instructions.

indeed, shifter evolution on all brands is a serious issue nobody talks about

It’s hard to clean that odd spot between the dash and screen

indeed, very epic. I think i’ll do either S-Class or BMW next.

Always liked those personally. LS600hL had ALL the leather on the dash. Many cows and expensive Bubinga/ African rosewood a la Yahmaha grand pianos :]

Man, the first and third gen have a very comfy timeless look to them, particularly the first. Good shit, Lexus.

Ok. I’m gonna say it. The current interior is extremely sexy. And do the BMW m5 for this next one

To be fair, the shifter design that they’ve gone with is rapidly becoming a Japanese standard for hybrid and EV products. So, given that many Japanese drivers have experience with this shifter layout, I’m not surprised that Lexus is adopting a variant of it - it’s compact and offers everything you’d need to select from the shifter. (They replace the engine braking mode of the Prius with a manual selection mode.)

The Prius started it, but the LEAF, Outlander PHEV, and Jazz/Vezel (what we in America know as the Fit and H-RV) Hybrids all adopted it.

(One oddity here is that the Outlander PHEV uses a RHD version of the shift pattern even on LHD cars. Typically, this style of shifter is always pulled towards you to shift to reverse, neutral, or drive, whether it’s RHD or LHD.)

The new one is so awesome. It might not age well, but damned if it isn’t one of my favorite interiors out there right now, right along with its cousin the LC.

Man, I think this is so flawed. There’s no standard for the park button location. I see some people putting it on top of the shifter, aside of the shifter, on the column, etc.

Yeah, that is one issue, it just kinda goes wherever there’s room for it (and Toyota doesn’t even make it consistent on their own products that use it). However, I’ll note that in every Toyota application of this shifter (I can’t speak for the others), powering down the car automatically selects park, so it’s not as important.

Here’s all the locations that I’m aware of:

Gen 2 Prius and Prius v have the button above the shifter (as above)

Gen 3 Prius has the button to the left of and in front of (I use that because the shifter’s closer to vertical than horizontal in that car) the shifter (for LHD, it’s right and above for RHD):

Toyota Sai and HS 250h have it below the shifter:

CT 200h has it even further below the shifter:

Gen 4 Prius has it to the left of the shifter (for LHD cars, it’s to the right in RHD cars):

Kinja'd!!!

LC 500/500h has it behind the shifter:

LS 500/500h has it to the left of the shifter:

Plus one for the LS 430. Fantastic interior except for the very dated navigation system.

when new they were nice, over the years they sent like if someone got one of the decorative pillows that go on your bed when it’s all made and stuck it underneath the leather :] The ride doe, especially if it has air suspension.

i’ll get too emotional. RIP my e28 and e34 :’(

I think S-Class is next followed by 7 series and A8.

You are free to simulcast post 5 Series, E-Class, A6, and Lexus GS if you want :]

For the times, they were indeed premium. Lexus had automatic radar cruise control in 2001 and performance hybrids/ full electric axles since 2006 among many other things the Germans get that technical credit for. That whole “Big 3" in luxury should change to Big 4

I am pretty sure MB had Distronic available from the beginning of W220 production in 1999. For performance hybrids, the market spoke: no interest. That being said, if I was shopping used later model LS, I would seek a LS600h just for unicorn status. I think I have seen two in person.

Maybe big 3.5, as the L brand still has a tough row to hoe outside of NA and a couple other markets.

I like the first pic, and second to last pic - the bamboo wood is somewhat fetching.
