Timing belt on the Miata snapped this week and I just bought a house so I don’t have time to fix it right at this second, so I did the logical thing and bought an 18 year old truck with 184k miles on it to drive in the meantime.

Plan is to use it to move, replace the timing belt on the Miata, clean this thing up, and then probably sell it but maybe keep it because a cheap truck is easy to justify.

Had a B series truck, loved it (in a used truck sort of way). Brake lines rusted through and dumped all the brake fluid on the ground while I was pulling up to a stop sign. Luckily no other cars were around and I survived blowing through the stop sign.

For your safety I would suggest checking the underbelly of you beast and replace any sketchy brake lines.

I will double check that, thanks for the heads up. Brakes feel very strong, surprisingly, and it’s in Texas so rust shouldn’t be an issue (in general), but late 90s Ford products could be capable of anything so I’ll crawl under it just in case.

It’s really not bad, a little bit of clearcoat peel but that’s fine for a work truck. Interior needs a good scrubbing, but I think it’s actually going to look very nice once I detail it up.

How could you possibly lose money selling a truck in Texas?

Here’s an instant tip to increase its value: change all the badges to say Ford. Technically not even untrue.

That first question is pretty much why I spent all of about 10 minutes looking this thing over before buying it. It runs, it drives, it has cold a/c, it’s a truck; I’m not going to have trouble getting my money out of it unless something catastrophic happens.

Funny story: the only Mazda-specific bits on it that I can find are the front grille, the B2500 badges on the side, and the rear tailgate graphics that say Mazda. Maybe $30 worth of parts. Steering wheel doesn’t even have the Mazda logo, they just erased the Ford logo from the molds used for these trucks.
