Ouch. I crunched the bottom of my old Civics front fender because I didn’t move the jack stand far enough out before lowering the car. 5 years later I put. Hole in the rocker panel because I was using a scissor jack in the wrong spot and the rocker panel had the structural integrity of papier-mâché.

Papier mache is an apt description for older civics. The rear floor panel would go from being bent up to being bent down during cornering and make a noise. Sort of like a stay fresh,”button” on jars.

When trying to teach my girlfriend how to wrench, I couldn’t get her past the “where to put jackstands” stage. Admittedly, it’s a skill that takes awhile to master, especially for a vehicle you haven’t lifted before.

Ahh this is why I hate using the actual jack points on my car. They always do this with jack stands or floor jacks since they are only designed for a damn scissor jack. It works much better when I just jack the car from the control arms but its difficult to get enough height for jack stands that way.

This is NOT a lift point.
It may look like one, but it’s not. It’s a plastic cover which keeps the elements off the lower attachment point for the front fender. You would think that a transmission shop would know this, but they don’t. I’m not sure if two idiots attacked my truck at the same time or if one guy did it twice, but trying to lift a Ranger or B-Series truck from this point will bend the entire front fender out of shape.

People love to complain about Italians and their lack of thought for practical design, but my Alfa Spider has four metal arrows on the bottom of the rocker panels, one near each wheel, marking the jacking points.
Perhaps it was because they knew how often they’d be used.

One of the previous owners of my E39 did this, right next to the fucking jack pads. I imagine their train of thought was well I jacked from the jack pad so I can’t put the jack stand there. But the dumb ass never considered they could jack from the frame and put the jack stand on the jack pad.
I’ve done something similar though on my zx2. Was jacking from underneath to use the jack point as a jack stand point, but for some reason didn’t pay attention to the box section and just went right on the floor pan. Had a nice raised floor after that.

This is a great paranoia of mine. It took me FOREVER to figure out where to put the jackstands under my FB Rx7 - I’m used to working on full-frame stuff, not 30-year-old paper-thin unibody.
