One of the last times I was on a plane, some fucking giant kept pushing his knees against my unreclaimed seat and botching endlessly about wanting more leg room. Now I find that I couldn’t give less of a shot about tall people on planes. Use your fucking monster legs to walk to your destination, you over 5'10" freaks.

It would be great if the FAA or someone would step in and tell airlines that they can no longer change the seating positions from factory specs. The planes are designed with the seats in line with the windows.

I’m 6'1" but I can sit reasonably comfortably without touching the seat in front of me on a plane. What kind of giant was sitting behind you?

Well, it was EasyJet, so it’s a bit cramped even for someone like me who is 5'8". Still, fuck that guy for repeatedly pushing on the sit like a five year old.

The FAA is in the coffin corner of both regulating and promoting the industry. The airlines wouldn’t stand for such common sense approaches to passenger comfort. Also, a seat at every window is probably a pipe dream. I think the manufacturers just drill holes in the fuselage at some predetermined interval and let the seats fall where they may.

One time I got on a plane and I was on the window. A gorgeous woman around my age was on the isle seat. We immediately started chatting. It was great. Then they call for final boarding and some grumpy guy who looked like there was no bar in any airport that could quench his lust for sleep plops himself down in the middle. Game. Over.

Kinja'd!!!

Here’s to you, Mr Human Cockblock. Mrs. Exocet is out there somewhere wondering what happened on that airplane.

In all fairness though, if the person next to you wants sleep, the right thing to do is to shut up. And control your kids (yes, I know, easier said than done but please make an effort - you get stars for effort here).

This is why I made a resolution several years ago that, unless traveling for business, I now drive anywhere east of the Mississippi.

Economy 2: the reckoning. Oh my God, that is hilarious. Oddly enough my last 2 flights on American Airlines have been flawless. Security was easy, flight was on time, passengers were civil, flight attendants were nice, the whole flight, including takeoff and landing was smooth. It was like I was in some weird alternate universe where everything goes right at the airport. Perhaps I was in the twilight zone?!

The aircraft are designed with seat tracks that can accommodate numerous configurations. Each config gets its own supplemental type certificate showing compliance with relevant regulations. Windows are simply spaced between the fuselage frames and those are located around 22" apart on Boeing narrow bodies as that is what is needed to deal with hoop loads. Airplane makers will happily deliver planes with seats pitched at the regulatory minimums if that is what you want and it has nothing to do with the windows.

Pic below is of a 747, a wide body, gives an idea of frame spacing.

Sure they will happily set up the seats how the airline would like it but when you look at the configurations they show in the press materials and any demonstrator units they have you see them with seats positioned such that there is a window next to each row of seats.

I’m 6'7", and there is nothing more unpleasant for me than flying. Sorry if I knee’d you.

It is almost as if marketing departments carefully stage their photo materials to present the best possible message to their customers.
