Kinja'd!!!

There is an Aztec that looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor parked across the street from my parents’ house right now. Words escape me.

Yeah I mean I hate the car, but respect the tenacity to keep a car that is notoriously poorly screwed together looking perfect for so long.

I’d like to see an immaculate one at a car show a few decades from now. But this is too early. Put it back in storage, and bring it back out later for us to marvel at.

Well I guess that’s what happens when you’re too embarrassed to drive it so you just leave it in the garage forever.

Didn’t the Rally come out as a trim halfway through the run in an attempt to de-uglify it some and bump sales? There can’t possibly have been many of these sold in the first place.

It was something like that. I don’t know if anyone would actually Rally an Aztec. It’s not exactly the right kind of vehicle. It’d be like a GT Jeep Wrangler. Doesn’t really make sense but if it is an appealing package why not?

Old people. My aunt’s (by Uncle’s marriage) parents had a red one that they loved. Like any retired old people, whenever the weather is bad they didn’t drive anywhere until the roads cleared. The thing was minty until the day they finally sold it. Just like my 93 year old neighbors late 90's Cavalier, even in black it was shockingly spotless.... too bad old people don’t by more interesting cars they’d be perfect for us stuck in the rust belt to buy from.

That’s the only possible explanation. My grandmother kept an ‘84 Chevette rust-free in Pittsburgh until 2001 when she turned 90 and gave up driving. And those things rusted when you looked at them funny. She sold it to me for $1 and it lasted about a year of actually being driven before it totally fell apart.

Either it has never been out in the sun or the owners have a serious commitment to Armor All.

Not all old people drive carefully and with a soft foot. My grandpa had a 2004 (?) Buick park avenue supercharged, and hooned the hell out of it. His previous cars were a GTI, golf, protege, beetle, and Buick road master wagon. I wasn’t alive for any of those, when I was born he had a lesabre. But the park avenue is for sale now (he got an outback) and it is in far from spotless condition. Driven hard, though the backseat was never used. I will say for a Pittsburgh car it has little rust.

My Boy Scout master, a massive gearhead, has an Aztek. Early one with body cladding, blue. Inexplicably his other car is a 2004 BMW Z4 six speed, with almost 200k miles.
