On last night’s subject of the Lamborghini Silhouette , would you modify a car that’s rare but not cared about? Im pretty torn because there were only 54 of these built but they arent on the radar and I think a Voodoo-swap would be freaking perfect. Most late 70s cars get a pass for restomodding but would the mostly ignored Silhouette be ok to change or should it be kept prestine?

What, you mean, like, adding a wing to change the outline?

OK to mod anything that’s not visible.

I might go very mild resto-mod. Keep the exterior and interior stock but modify the running gear so that it can be more easily driven.

I’d leave it, but I prefer everything stock.

It’s not that different from the Jalpa.

Why mod one when you can buy something else instead? I am moving further and further away from mods like that.

The way I see it, there’s always gonna be that group of purists/collectors who want to keep cars 100% stock. If the car is yours, why not mod it, even if they’re major changes.

If I had a complete car I would try and keep it close to stock. If I had just a rolling chasis and no engine a swap would be a lot of fun. I would probably try and find something I could fit transverse mounted.

THey should be kept as art. At least, that’s my take. I wrote a whole article on it like 2 years ago - http://oppositelock.kinja.com/cars-that-time-forgot-lamborghini-silhouette-1390262887

The silhouette was what made the Jalpa happen.

Even if it’s not a popular car, I still think that it’s historically important to keep a handful of them stock. With such low production numbers, how many of these are still around? Half? Fewer?

Were I to buy one, I’d do a bunch of research and see what other owners are doing with theirs. If there are only one or two stock examples left, then I’d want to keep mine stock. But if that’s already what everyone else is doing, then I’d feel free to mod away.
