“Well, I’m eventually getting a Switch, but should I get a PS4 or and Xbox One?”
“The One S and the PS4 are pretty close in price, but what about the PS4 Pro? Is that worth the extra hundred bucks?”
“Oh, that’s right, the One X is going to be coming out in November. And that’s... $599? Are you shitting me?”
So, what should I do? Grab a One S now and say balls to the Three Days Grace clone, or swap over to a PS4?

Xbox because Forza > Gran Turismo. Don’t bother with the PS4 pro or Xbox One X unless you have a 4k TV and care about trying to game at that resolution (spoiler, a gaming PC would be a much better option at 4k than either of the upgraded consoles)

PS4 has more games than XBOX and almost everything on XBOX is on PS4 with the exception of the Halo Series and the Forza Series. Those are big exceptions so it comes down to how much do you want hose particular games, also what do your friends play on. I opted for PS4 because that’s what my friends have, so I can play Destiny 2 with them.

I’d get the PS4 Pro because of the 4K on Netflix, amazon and Youtube... Also it’s fair to guess that they’ll push more games to run in 4K in the upcomming months. Finally, I’m a Playstation guy, but if you’re moreinto the Xbox library, up to you. That should be the main reason for you to choose between both. I have a PC for Microsoft stuff, so the Xbox is not even a question for me...

I don’t think there are going to be One X exclusive games but I wouldn’t put it past microsoft to make some of their games only run ok on the X before public outrage makes them fix it.

Do you need it now? With the 1X coming out the deals this Black Friday are going to be super competitive from Sony and likely on the One S.

That’s what it’s starting to boil down to for me: which console has more attractive exclusives (since both play Blu-rays)? Cross-platform stuff I don’t super care for since I have a PC. I do love Halo, though.
I guess I’ll take a look at a list and see what I prefer.

Not all the Microsoft stuff is coming to PC, though (as far as I know). And 4k is pretty meaningless to me at moment.

I use my Playstation as a media center, so the 4K is pretty important for me... The few games that don’t come out on PC aren’t enough of a big deal for me to even consider the Xbox.

Fair play. And I think a bunch of the Forza stuff is out for Windows 10, and that would be the main driver for me. Since a new PC build is also in the works, the PS4 would make more sense.

Have a one s. Like it. On 4k TV it’s cool. Plus it plays 4k movies, so I don’t need a secondary player. The whole home media shit is crappy. I just ended up porting Roger’s through it. Then bypassing it completley.

I’ve got both, they are both good. It depends on a few things. Do either of them have exclusive franchises that you’re heavily invested in? Do you have gaming friends, and which system are they on? Those are the two biggest.
The third thing to consider is that the Xbox controller is worlds better than the PS4 controller. Especially the Xbox Elite controller. It is an amazing piece of gaming equipment compared to the cheesy, cheap feeling PS4 controller.

PS4 I’m more interested in, since I’ll be building a new gaming desktop at some point in the future and I’ll be able to play a fair bit of the Microsoft stuff. Plus, most of my friends game on PC, so that’s not an issue. And I do love the 360 controller, but eh, I can deal with it.

What do you plan on building?
I’m waiting on socket TR4 CPU coolers to be made before I build a new daily workstation. I’m on 6700k/64gb ddr4 3200/all SSD storage/GTX 1080Ti with 2 x 4k right now. Looking forward to being able to run local VMs for test environments instead of having to off-site them in the server stack and then have to schlep over there to work on them when they get bitchy.

Going from an i5 2500k to either an R5 1500x or 1600x. Thinking of 16 gigs of RAM and a GTX 1070, and having a boot SSD along with a 4 TB HDD for storage.

Honestly you can’t go wrong with either system. Based on what you’re saying here and in other comments I’d go with the PS4.
I mostly play the PS4 because I’ve got online buddies. If it wasn’t for that I’d probably mostly be on the Xbone purely because I’ve been running Xbox since the original. They are both good systems and both have their pluses and minuses. Pick one and don’t bother worrying that the other one is better because they really are that evenly matched when it comes to gaming experience.
