Swiss is flying its last revenue flight with an Avro RJ100 right now. Crossair (Swissair’s regional arm pre-bankruptcy) started flying BAe 146s in 1990. You can track the flight here:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Zurich airport also has a bunch of webcams as well if you want to try to watch the landing/taxi: http://airportwebcams.net/zurich-airport-webcam/

ETA: webcam photo of final approach, from Zurich airport cam:

I loved those planes. I remember flying it my first time in Communist China (before they opened up in the mid-90s). They did seem to crash a lot though.

The design reminds me of the Q400.

Yeah they were neat airplanes, though the condensation in the cabin when landing was always a bit strange (along with the it’s not smoke, it’s normal PA announcement). They did have quite a few high profile incidents, but they did build nearly 400, and a lot of them filtered down to some marginal operators.

Yeah but they were one million percent cooler. 5 abreast seating and a really big cabin for a regional jet. Did I mention it also had four turbofans, unobstructed ground views and a usable restroom?

I secretly enjoy flying in Q400s, when the pitch of the props change during landing & throws your forward is neat.

Maybe the last flight with Swiss but there are still several other operators using them :).

Ha yeah, and the takeoffs are wild - such a short run to get into the air. I haven’t flown on a Q400 yet, just -100 and -300s so far.

Ah true, but is a non-Swiss 146 still a Jumbolino? A lot of the ex-Swiss airframes are finding new homes apparently, mostly in South America.

I’ve only been on Q400s from YTZ-YQT. Maybe 1.5-2 hour flight. YTZ is also a neat airport, so much better then YYZ.

I still have traumatic flashbacks to trying to make flights in the old Terminal 2 at YYZ. One of these days I have to post the photos I took from old Terminal 1 right before it closed. That was a cool terminal (but totally impractical).

That’s always been a favorite of mine. Never flown on one, though.

It does look cool, flying from YYZ-MCO in march was neat. MCO had a nice lay out, the shuttles to each airside. Apart from the 3.5hr flight delay leaving MCO is was nice.

I used to fly them pretty frequently from YUL/YOW-YHZ and SYR-ORD. Air Canada’s regional airlines had them, and Air Wisconsin operated them for United. If you want to catch a ride, I know First Air still has a couple in service in the Canadian North. You can see Nunavut, and experience one for yourself. Though it would probably cost you about the same as going to Europe in business class.

Yeah, that condensation freaked me out specifically. Back then, China was mostly flying TU-154s and some other random junk planes which crashed like every month. I was on one of these after being on a TU-154 that had a “no smicking” sign. Getting onto a decidedly British Dragonair flight out of China to HK afterwards was a sigh of relief. These days, they’re just boring airlines that just aren’t as shitty as Air India.

Still funny how the Chinese finally decided a few years later that crashing brand new 737s into mountainsides were unacceptable.

That is perhaps the best description of Air India I have ever heard.

I’ve flown those planes in and out of London City airport several times. They’re one of the few models of jets approved to go to LCY because the take off angle have to be much sharper there due to the surrounding buildings (Canary Wharf among other structures).

I’ve definitely been on the Swiss Air RJ100's at least once but more often on the Lufthansa RJ100's.

They’re quite quiet and smooth, and provide a nice push when taking off, especially at LCY.

Yep - they were really well suited to LCY, and I seem to recall they were the only jet that could fly in there for a few years after it opened. One cool trick they had was a huge airbrake in the tail for steep descents, which was probably handy for LCY (photo by Wikipedia user Adrian Pingstone, public domain).

Tampa is the original and best landside/airside airport- it’s YYZ terminal 1, mark 2, and doesn’t hide ripping off the original YYZ in terms of the parking layout and short curb to plane distances. MCO was built later, but Tampa has a much better layout in the main terminal. The original Airsides at TPA were neat too - some were totally bonkers, especially the one originally built for National Airlines, later used by Pan Am. The lounges were on the top level, you went down to your plane. The original airsides have all been demolished now and are more conventional, but the main terminal is pretty much unchanged in terms of layout. Here’s an article with lots of photos from just after it opened in 1971:
