Kinja'd!!!

Some old NMB keyboard

Kinja'd!!!

Uses an AT style connector so I had to nab an AT to PS/2 adapter. Here it is on my desk

Kinja'd!!!

And no, it’s not mechanical but surprisingly good and stiff for a rubber dome.

no windows key is a deal breaker for me and I had one... sold it for nearly 3x I paid for it.

I also don’t want to spend $50+ on a keyboard

When it comes to membrane boards, KeyTronic also makes some good ones.

Unicomp makes 104 ones. Although kinda surprised coming from you that you want a Windows key.

Yeah, I had some old HPs that came with Keytronic keyboards and those were good

Well I pictured you to be more like those ThinkPad guys who outraged against Lenovo for changing the 7-row keyboard and adding the key.

I worked for them back in the 90s, back when they built keyboards in the US, and some of the commercial keyboards they made were absolute tanks. They are probably still being used.

Very cool! My daily keyboard on my WIn10 desktop is a Compaq RT101 from the 486 era (one of the first with a PS/2 plug). No Windows key! :P

I’ve been using it daily since 2004 through 3 different machines because I love the feel of it - similar to your NMB, very stiff and ‘mechanical’ feel to it for being rubber-dome! I modded it in 2005 with superbright blue LEDs because that is what you did back then - these are very old pics of it, but you get the idea as it looks exactly the same now :P

My other old keyboard is in use in my spare desktop - it also originally had an A/T plug, but I didn’t have any PS2 adapters, so I did a cable swap and soldered a PS2 cable from an old ball mouse onto it instead - works great! No idea what brand it is as it has no listed brand undermeath, just “Model KB-M102.” This one is also rubber dome, but has an INCREDIBLY unique ‘light’ feel to it and feels like no other keyboard I have ever used. Coming from my Compaq to this always ends in a crapton of typos XD - also, look, Macro key! :P

Can you assign that macro key to win key?

We had one pretty similar to that on the 486, sans Windows keys.

the you of today would of had a blast with me in the late 80s early 90s.

You need to ditch that LCD and go 15-17 CRT to get the whole 80-90s vibe.

Maybe if I had the right software, but within an OS by default, no, not that Ive found! :P

The machine it’s currently plugged into runs Linux Mint 18.2 and I’ved used it on my Windows desktop before - in both cases, the Macro key functions as a key for the ‘<’ symbol, weirdly enough!

After that we used to use it on an old NEC laptop with an AT/PS2 converter, IIRC. This would have been about 2001. The NEC had a superdisc drive for the drive bay you would swap with the CD.

but, but 2560 x 1440 was things of dreams back then. 800 x 600 was life.

Passive aggressive typing intensifies.

The made in China Keytronic I just picked up is pretty nice, but just doesn’t compare to the made in the USA ones I have.

Nice!

A good rubber dome is really underrated. I just picked up a mid ‘90s keytronic keyboard to go with the “new” main computer I’m building.

After two years, I’m finally replacing my mess of a Dell/Lenovo hybrid!

Weird. My computer collection has several SGI variations of these (but with Scandinavic layout unlike the example). But despite similar outside shape they are very mechanical and make very loud typing noises.
