Kinja'd!!!

Well the results are in, and according to you all I had the hot trucks definition down. They’re fast trucks, period.

Unfortunately my “friend” thinks you’re all stupid and wrong.

Kinja'd!!!

As a truck owner, and someone who has driven trucks for a couple decades now. Hot truck=a truck with some kick. The Dakota R/T, 4.7+5 speed, GMC Syclone, 454SS, Lightning in all it’s iterations, Little Red Express Truck, and the Dodge Dude all count.

As does a guy who stuck a 440 in a Gen 1 Dakota.

Didn’t get to say anything last night, but yeah your friend is dead wrong. Would he also say that a Cruze Eco is the hottest of all small sedans because it has 2hp more than base and is cheap (last gen)?

Besides, anyone who doesn’t think the Syclone is a hot truck is obviously wrong before even getting started. It’s hot, full stop, even today. It also happens to be a truck. Saying hot+truck=/=hot truck is saying 2+2=/=4.

I’m guessing my definition wasn’t right

Even if I would show it to him he’d come up with some bullshit excuse as to why he’s right and you’re wrong.

Tried it last night with some responses from here, he’s what he said.

“Imagine if someone said, ‘I love Spy movies like John Wick. Who’s James Bond?’ It’s like that, but they’re saying, ‘I love hot trucks like the Syclone. What’s the Sierra HT?’”

He’d probably say it’s not a truck because you can only put 500 pounds in the bed.

Okay.. it’s a little different. Pretty much everyone has heard of James Bond, and everyone has heard of the Syclone. I haven’t seen John Wick but I have heard of it. The GMC Sierra HT - never heard of it before. I just went to look up what it was and am impressed - and it fits the definition. Not saying that John Wick isn’t a spy movie because it isn’t James Bond, but James Bond defines the category - and IMO so does the Syclone. Pretty much everybody knows what they are.

Oh, now that is a nice engine bay. I’m holding out for a full hellcat swap for my 99 R/T, but that’s going to be major surgery and the old girl is running great with the original 5.9 and slush box at 173k miles. Although the trans is definitely shifting a bit sloppy even after a fresh fluid change and a band adjustment, so that swap my not be too far in the future, sadly... sort of.

When the gen II dak RTs came out, they were pretty bad ass little trucks. Would hang with the lightnings for sure.

Honestly, the best route tends to be the 408 with M1 intake manifold. You can make good power pretty cheap. The 46RE is a pretty straight forward trans, any reasonable trans shop should be able to rebuild it back to factory fresh. I’ll say this though, I’ll take a 4.7+5 speed over an R/T any day :)

No doubt about the 408 or the 4.7 w 5 speed, but at the time, 5.9 with the slush box was the bad boy of the dodge trucks. An SRT10 would be a fun package for sure, but I’ve had this one for so long, it’d be tough to part ways.

We will see how it all goes, I ultimately want to put it on air bags as well, but it gets to the point where it’s just not feasible to make the mods, but time will tell, of one or more of my boys decides to have an interest in it as a project, then sky’s the limit. It’s not the speedwagon it once was. I’ve had a first gen CTS-V and a B8 S4 before my newest daily driver, a D3 S8... so my expectation of performance has become a bit skewed over the years and really it’s nostalgia that keeps me hanging on to the RT, that and it’s nice to have a truck to move stuff ;). I can’t complain though, I beat the piss out of it all the time and it just keeps going. It’s my proof that keeping fluids clean will allow for a long life, no matter the driving style.

Here’s the crazy thing, I preferred my 4.7+5 speed 2002 to my cousin’s ‘06 GTO. His was faster, sure. But I like knockabout performance. Being able to just slam the rear end around and not particularly care about potholes and speed bumps was great. If those trailer brakes hadn’t failed I’d still have it. I have an ‘06 Ram, but it makes me miss my Dakota.
