Some Philly area Republicans have put up this sign on their yards:

Kinja'd!!!

Their rationale? They felt offended by the “Hate Has No Home Here” signs. For reals.

If you search “Glad you’re our neighbor sign” on Amazon a bunch come up. Here’s the link to the one I ordered: https://www.amazon.com/Were-Youre-Neighbor-Double-sided-H-stake/dp/B06X3SDGFY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1502717966&sr=8-2&keywords=glad+you%27re+our+neighbor+sign

The sign in and of itself isn’t so bad, the reasoning not so much.

I bet if you randomly quizzed the sign owner about the constitution, you wouldn’t get correct answers (if not just cussed out and name-called to begin with).

Probably similar results about religious texts, or American history.

Given that it’s republicans putting the sign up and given their “understanding” of god and the constitution, the sign is bad, haha. But I guess if you were a complete stranger to US politics this sign may not be so bad.

edit: didn’t mean to come across as accusatory of all republicans, sorry about that.

Former registered Republican here (I switched to independent after Trump got the nomination).

We’re not all bad people. Plenty of intelligent, compassionate people who vote R.

Probably very similar results for the religious texts. I read a sign the other day and it said something to the effect of “no matter if you are Muslim, gay, atheist, black, homeless, Christian, an addict, etc, love thy neighbor without exceptions, Jesus didn’t make any exceptions”

It was a sign outside of a church of some Christian denomination, they’ve got the right idea! Or at least... their sign does.

“Plenty of intelligent, compassionate people who vote R.”

Yeah, I shouldn’t have made such a sweeping accusation. Although I would argue that anyone who voted for Trump does not fall under that definition, or if they do, they are extremely ignorant. Trump inspires neither compassion or intelligence.

I’m sad to admit that I am slightly disappointed in anyone that I know for a fact voted for him. Rationally I shouldn’t be, maybe, since our two party system is a damn disaster and it puts some people between a rock and a hard place. But COME ON, this guy?

An effort was made, that’s all one can expect these days.

There’s a progressive church near me with even better signage (a rainbow sign, mention of sanctuary, etc), but known as an open-minded establishment, so they might practice what they preach.

However, it seems anyone I’ve ever encountered who blabbers about being a constitutionalist or libertarian never seems to know the basis behind their claimed background.

yeah, we have all these labels: constitutionalist, libertarian, republican, conservative, democrat, progressive, liberal, etc, etc.

But some, probably many, of these people aren’t being human anymore. Proposing legislation that kills people, literally, conspiracy to commit murder is what the repeal of the ACA amounted to. Proposing legislation that is nothing but a tax cut for the rich, both in tax reform and health care reform. How do these people live with themselves. They’ve got this twisted sense of reality and with a straight face can feed you bullshit that makes it sound like it’s good policy. Sensible gun legislation, shot down every time because of lobbyists. Money, money, money. That’s what it’s all about these days, but it’s at the cost of lives, the well being of children and the well being of our society as a whole.

The populace in Murka still suffers greatly from “temporarily embarrassed millionaire” syndrome, which makes them believe in trickle-down nonsense. They will sell themselves into ruin for the “rising tide” hope, where in reality it mostly just lifts yachts.

I never would have thought a little yard sign could possibly affect me in any way other than annoyance, but these legitimately give me a warm feeling when I see them around my neighborhood, like: Yes, dammit, THIS is who we are.

Too bad their continued support for inherenly racist policies completely negates anything they may do personally.

Voting Democrat for the next few elections is the only way to remove the cancer. And then we would still have to address Democrats for the same issues, though nothing nearly so overt or horrid as what is going on now.

There is no perfect political party, but we do have one option that doesn’t support literal Nazis. So they aren’t the same in any way.

Trickle down and rising tide are really diametrically opposed if you think about it. Trickle down=rich get richer and maybe let some crumbs trickle down, whereas rising tide=give money to the lower class and they will spend it all and try to better themselves, but at least their money gets pumped right back into the local economy.

The folly is thinking that any of the politicians have a clue what it’s like in the world we live in. These folks are so far removed from reality that they just can’t relate to the “common man”. They may feign some sort of empathy, but it’s hard to relate to folks that you no longer have anything in common with. Same can be said for upper and upper middle class relating to sub poverty folks, so it’s not just politicians, but they’re on a whole other level. When they can’t tell you what a lot of bread or a gallon of milk costs, or a gallon of gas for that matter, then I’d say they are pretty out of touch. This is both sides for sure. It just seems the republicans are more okay with it staying that way, but don’t make the mistake to think that the dems are looking out for you either.

It was meant as snark - the line “a rising tide lifts all yachts” became a thing around the time Romney was a candidate (he might have used the original line, I don’t recall). Unfortunately, it seems to work in practice about as well as trickle down theory - even with improved economic conditions overall, a very small subset is reaping nearly all of the rewards. And now the Rs want to try it again, Something something do the same thing expect different results definition of insanity etc.

“It was just a way to keep Hillary out.”

No, it was a way to bring Trump in. In the US, unfortunately, a vote for a 3rd party is a wasted vote. Not saying a 3rd party can’t stand a chance, but they definitely didn’t stand a chance in the last election. It would take someone very special.
