We spent part of Saturday tooling around the swamp. I made some new friends while we were there.
First up was a friendly little water snake. We watched as he chased some flies and a little wasp. He finally scored a small frog which he ate in two gulps.
Next up was an anole. These little lizards are found just about everywhere in the south, from the desert to the swamp. I bet you can’t find him. Big hint: he’s green
Finally, I leave you with this guy. He’s the first all-red dragonfly I’ve ever seen. He was very lethargic, so I’m pretty sure I met him at the end of his life. I’m glad I was there to get some really nice pictures before he left this world

This Carolina anole (anolis carolinensis) was hanging out on my office window at work on Friday. They are particularly hard to spot because they can change color from brown to bright green. This one appears to be a female as it lacks the red neck flap (dewlap) the males have.

You must be from the south. Only a born-and-raised southerner finds the swamp a pleasant place to be.

From the South, but not the swamp. We’ve only lived here 10 years or so. Even so, the swamp is a nice place to visit, as long as you have a boat and plenty of mosquito spray.

That’s the same species as the one that’s hiding in the picture! It was really neat to see him shift color when he made his way onto the tree.
