Kinja'd!!!

Hyundai Elantra with only 12k km on the clock. It’s already taken us through New Brunswick and PEI. Nova Scotia and Newfoundland are left.

It’s woefully underpowered (compared to my DDs) but still a fine car for getting from A to B. It handles the patchwork these provinces call roads fine enough and feels light - fairly compliant in the twisties and not hard to toss around. Steering is way too light though. It supports Android Auto which is way better than any nav system I’ve used before.

A gear drop is required to accelerate at highway speeds. I leave it in manual mode for that very reason because it takes some time for the car to figure that out on its own. 4th is needed for passing.

Bonus decent condition Prelude I saw today!

My take on the Elantra is that it’s a perfectly fine car. It’s not the greastest car in the world, but it’s perfectly adequate for most people (especially as a hatchback).

Agreed. It definitely gave me some insight as to what’s out there for the majority of people.

Just a vacation! I live in Ontario and have been out west but never in the Maritimes. This year also seemed fitting because it’s our 150th bday and all that. Arriving in Halifax at night tomorrow. I did want to see Kejimkujik Seaside National Park but not sure there’s enough time. Wednesday morning we leave to Cape Breton and then hop on the ferry to Newfoundland.

Enjoy your time here, Halifax is a very nice city - I went to university there for 7 years! Definitely make sure you get to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, at LEAST to see HMCS Sackville - she’s the last surviving Canadian WWII Corvette and a beautiful old ship. :)

The Cabot Trail through Cape Breton is an epic drive, I hope you can make it - I would love to do it again someday, but it has been a LONG time since I’ve been up there!

If you’re coming down to the South Shore at all (50 mins south of Halifax - the Bridgewater/Mahone Bay/Lunenburg/Liverpool area), I’ll keep my eye out for an orange new Elantra! :)

My 2009 Hyundai Accent hatchback has a very patriotic Oppo sticker if you see it, haha!

It’s also the only one I’ve seen wearing 1998 Ford Escort alloys :P

Safe travels! And yes, our roads have a ‘surface’ to them, if you can call it that. :P

How comfortable is the driver’s seat after a few hours on the road?

I really wish there was an adjustable lumbar support. Otherwise it’s not so bad.

The epitome of meh. But that works for a lot of people and doesn’t make this a bad car. It’s a great driving appliance.

Explored some of Halifax tonight and tomorrow morning heading to Lunenburg for some hiking! Keep your eyes peeled.

Cool - will do! Whereabouts are you hiking? There is a nice, fairly well-kept trail along the old rail line from Mahone Bay to Lunenburg (and to a bit past Lunenburg out onto the Penninsula as well)! I work 2pm-11pm in Mahone Bay tomorrow, but I’ll keep my eyes open!

Stop at the Fisheries Museum on the Lunenburg waterfront if you’ve got time and are into that sort of thing, it’s very well done!
