It was a day of lies, as it actually took *THREE HOURS AND 45 MINUTES* to drive from Baring to Everett. Highway 2 is a fucking parking lot on Sundays (and Weekdays). It took one hour to inch forward two miles in Index.
We pulled over for burgers and shakes in the middle of nowhere. My burger was shit but the shake was excellent (butterscotch!). Fries were goodly. Lot of compliments on the comfort of the Paseo Wagon from my passengers. For long distance cruising, and for rotting in traffic, it really doesn’t get much more relaxing than this thing.
Get out your pitchforks for this one: Not only do I have zero regrets getting an automatic, I daresay it’ll be tough for me to buy a manual again for a DD, especially while I’m still living in this hellhole traffic zone. If I ever need to get my 3-pedal fix, I still have the longbed.

This 19 miles once took me four hours. The only upside was that it descends 1,000ft in elevation so most of it could be coasted in neutral.

I had manuals for 20 years, then in 2015 I bought my 7 passenger CVT pathfinder, I said it’s ok since I still have my manual Jeep TJ.
Sold my jeep last year, and have no more manuals, but got another CVT machine to replace it.
I have 3 CVTs now. My Yamaha Venture MP(snowmobile), Kawasaki Teryx and my pathfinder. My wife has an automatic Elantra. If I ever get another manual it will be a fun weekend car.

Two pedals are fine. If I want to choose my gear myself I’ll ride something with to wheels, human or dinosaur powered, doesn’t matter which. I give it a year or two before traffic down here is as fucked as up there.

I went Saturday morning. No traffic up, horrendous starting somewhere well above Gold Bar coming back. I didn’t take the upper loop bypass (should have, that’s a fun road), but I did take the Ben Howard bypass. Definitely a fun road and how I ended up going north on High Bridge instead of south.
With the ridiculously shitty traffic in this region, I blame nobody for driving an automatic. It’s far worse than LA, even.
I do love driving a manual when things are flowing, though. Traffic makes them a chore, clear roads and highways make them very enjoyable.

I watched my fuel economy drop continuously in that jam and thought, “man, this is the biggest waste of fuel ever”.
Still got 32mpg after some hooning because I’m some kind of hypermiling master or something. The other FoST, FoRS, and FiST owners are in awe of my fuel economy numbers/skills.
If I could just do highways on a warm engine everywhere, I’d get like 35-36mlg. I’ve seen it peak just over 40 before in long-distance highway cruising. Freaking Prius-grade numbers in a turbo car riding on sticky summer performance tires.

That’s nothing. The high-traffic part of this route took 10 min on the way up on Saturday. The return would have took 2-3 hours had I not split off and took a small back road.
