4. Bought new end links at autozone, installed on the passenger side where I have the new shock and the original end link was stripped out. Should have used the sawzall sooner. One corner done, three to go. At least I can drive it now.

Kinja'd!!!

3. The struts are stamped FOMOCO, go figure.

Got it all back together. The end link is not tight but it won’t fall off, the allen bolt rounded out tightening it back down, maybe 2 turns from full tight.

Ordering new end links now. I’m not going to do the driver side today. Going to wait for my anger to settle down.

2. Fuckity fuck those end links. And the shock won’t go down the last 1.5 mm into the hub.

1. I got the passenger side back on, just had to point the steering straight forward. I am tempted to do the drivers side now.

Original: The YouTube video made it look much easier. Having a hell of a time getting the shock back on.

Suspension work is the worst

I wish I’d paid someone else to do this right about now...

Me too, but it would have cost me the “value” of my car, and that’s with other concerns on top of that.

Can you disconnect the lower ball joint? It’d give you a bit more room to move stuff around

I’m going to try to reposition the wheel assembly first, but I did see the lower ball joint has easy access.

Having just gotten all of this back together on my car, I feel like you’d be better off disconnecting the ball joint and tie rod.

I got it back on so that’s all taken care of. I need to buy new end links though, the allen head bolt hole totally stripped out trying to tighten down the nut. So its on there but loose.

I messed up my rear sway bar reinstallation (end link allen socket got rounded), so now there’s the infamous mazda3/5 suspension clunk. Ordered 2 new sets of end links and am going to try to work the Cobbsport Mazdaspeed3 rear sway in.

Mistakes are just excuses to upgrade.

and yeah, there’s a mazda3 rear spring tutorial that made it look so damn easy. in real life..... not so much. leaving it to the pros next time.

Those allen heads are the worst. Ended up just cutting the nuts off of my old end links to get them out so I could install my new ones.

I resorted to the sawzall once I had the new end links in hand. 30 second removal per bolt. He he.

I used my Dremel because I’m not confident in my ability to control a sawzall in such a tight space with so many damageable components. Took a little more than 30 seconds, but it was good enough for me.
