Ideally, I wanna put one of each in the Escort eventually. I’ve decided that the car is dying no matter what I do, and I want to let it go with a bang. Which is definitely a lot to ask of myself when I don’t even have the tools to change my spark plugs right now... but, nonetheless, I feel like I’ll be able to at least install a junkyard turbo somehow. I might end up needing to build a new header from scratch, though, which I think might be too much to manage.
But if I can have a twincharged FWD 4-banger, even if it only lasts me a day, I will have truly lived.

Others mentioned but installing NOS or the like would be way simpler and cheaper. If you’re gonna kill it, don’t waste too much money

A turbo is gonna be MUCH easier to DIY, especially if you don’t really care how long it lasts. A supercharger requires a lot more work; fitting a turbo is basically just welding tubes, and precision fitment isn’t super critical.
But yeah, NO2 is by far the easiest. Plus, when the engine blows up you can keep the NO2 kit for another car.

nitrous. way way easier. Turbo requires fab work and removing oil pan to run the oil return line

I might do a remote turbo. Probably cheapest overall since I can get everything from a junkyard.
That said, nitrous is definitely an option.
