So I’m looking at cheap exhaust dumps and I see this. I’m looking at the harness provided and I notice something...

Kinja'd!!!

Is that a cigarette lighter mount?

Indeed it is. With an adapter already attached to the harness. I love you cheap ebay parts.

From what I’ve read, all exhaust dumps suck, so I’m thinking of just getting cheap ones, and blocking off the flange for the winter and taking off the motor so it doesn’t rust . or so when I smash it on a rock it’s no major hard ship.

Just install a plate over the cutout with bolts and wing nuts. Electric cutouts aren’t worth the pain.

But the whole point is I can flip loud switch when I want. Otherwise I’d just get a muffler.

That’s the dream, right there... I wish I could economically incorporate a way to have a raucous V8 soundtrack everywhere I drive, then hit a mute button when the wife hops in... alas, happy wife, happy life. She puts up with most of my automotive shenanigans. I’ve managed to get away with a few loud cars by buying them with no exhaust systems and making them “quieter”.

As far as e-cutouts go, though, you get what you pay for. And even if you pay a lot they still aren’t great. If they’re cheap enough, give them a shot- but let us know how it goes!

I thought there were manual cable cut outs but you have to run it through somewhere. I thought about getting something for my diesel mercedes. It’s fairly muffled stock, I have no resonator just a muffler.

I had one fitted to my old Jaguar X type 2.5 AWD, pretty fun for the money.

This. The ones like pictured above have no travel limit- so when you open and close it you can easily overtax the motor by making it fight against an already full open or full closed valve. Then the motor burns out, or the gears strip, or the three teeny screws that hold the motor/gearbox to the plate/valve strip out and you’re boned.

Take a look at the NOWEEDS exhaust diverters. Super high-quality construction and they’re said to be the best on the market. They aren’t cheap, but with things like this, you get what you pay for.

I looked at it. It would be $700 for one. I could afford to have a cheap one e installed and break on me like 3 times and I’d still come out ahead
