So I started working out again and I’m trying to drop 10-15 lbs. Have had about 1200 calories so far today. Going out to dinner tonight and found some fair choices where we are going. Boneless medium hot wings with celery are 8 for 420 calories if I skip the blue cheese, a bowl of chicken gumbo soup for 140 calories and then either a 140 calorie Guinness or about 100 calorie light beer. I’m 5'10" at 201 to start. Next week I’m trying to cut down to 1700-1800 calories a day on weekdays, maybe do a day or two at about 1500. Tomorrow night is steak and corn on the cob or grille so I have to really eat skinny in the morning.

Kinja'd!!!

Spent 1 hour at gym last night and burned about 350 extra calories. Tonight I’ll work at at home after dinner for 15-20 minutes to get just a little weight time in.

My way for making calorie control easy is to keep a freezer full of Lean Cuisines to take for work lunches. Now if I can just fit more rides into my workdays, I’ll be on schedule.

Have done that too. Lately eating low cal fruits and boiled eggs for lunch. Occasional protein shake with skim milk. Water or non-sweet tea with meals.

Try to cut out all the sugar you can, and if you’re working out, up your protein intake. More protein will help your muscles to recover faster and grow.

I’m no dietitian, but in my experience a combination of a regular exercise regimen, avoidance of sugar, massive protein intake, calorie control, and hydration burns fat really efficiently.

Edit to add: You’re gonna have to figure out what your idel protein intake is. Its definitely more than you think, but don’t go crazy on the protein bars; there’s lots of calculators online that can point you in the right direction depending on the type of eating habits you have.

I figured my problem was the fact that I just impulsively eat stuff if I’m sitting around the house chilling... so I started eating stuff like Cheerios and Rice Crispies. The logic being it takes a long time to eat them so I won’t eat as much. And it worked... I dropped 30lbs. No extra exercise and I didn’t change the rest of my eating.

Unfortunately I eventually got bored with that, and it’s a VERY slippery slope

Already cut the sugar. Using ON Whey protein and some pre-work out stuff by Finish First. Lots of water. I know I need to get to the gym at least 3 days a week like I did years ago to get the burn going.

Determining your RMR is a good way to figure out your daily requirements. Too much a deficit and you’ll hit a wall.

Cutting sugars works to a degree. Too much of a cut and you will have poor workouts.

Rule of thumb for protein is 1g per lb of body weight.

I have a very similar problem. I like junk way too much, and if it’s there I WILL eat it.

Tea and coffee at work are great for controlling appetite. I can’t do unsweetened, but I use Aspartame.

I’m back to getting back in shape, dropped 60 pounds. Here’s what I do. Again, it’s what I do, most people wouldn’t do it.

Morning - resistance training with resistance bands, 20 mins. Follow up with one scoop of Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey protein since it’s an immediate release product.

Lunch - 1 can of chunk light tuna in water, 1TB of olive oil mayo, I add onion, celery and tomato. Follow with 10 minutes of resistance training. One scoop of Universal Nutrition milk and egg protein, as it’s about a 4 hr release product.

Dinner consist of some vegetables like broccoli, carrots, some salmon, and another UN milk and egg shake. 20 minutes resistance training.

Immediately before bed - 40 push ups, 40 sit ups, one scoop of Muscle Pharm Combat powder. It’s a 12 hr release product.

The idea is to establish a low FAT diet, high protein. If your body goes catabolic, it digest muscle instead of fat. Feeding with quality food and protein makes your body stay anabolic, which builds muscle and burns fat.

I’ve bulked up quite a bit in four months and shredded over sixty pounds, and never feel hungry.

Air popped popcorn. If you need seasoning spray it with an olive oil spray and grind garlic salt over it.

Usually around 30 calories per cup (popped) and has some fiber.

Seems like you’re on the right track. Keep it up! Make it part of your lifestyle or you’ll hate yourself when the weight comes back, which I’m sure you know. And oh boy does it come back (ask me how I know).

Great tips on the digestion rate of the proteins.

Right, I guess I mean unnecessary sugars like sodas, candy. Getting your sugars from things like fruit is a necessity.

i dont think calories translates directly into weight. I droopped lots of weight quick by eating salads for lunch and running 3-4 miles every other day. I went from like 200 to 185 in a couple weeks.

I’ve used that rule before and had some success with it its just hard to imagine eating 215g of protein a day...like how?

I currently average around 60-80g I think.

I myself have liked the Combat powder. It’s a mix which is nice for me because if I want to use it post workout it’s not bad. ON Gold standard is REAL expensive so it’s my in between.

I edited my post since I can’t provide a citation. I guess I’ll leave it as: Combat has been decent for me but it’s percentages are proprietary and a bit suspect.

That running would be like my cycling. I used to cycle between 15-60 miles a week and could eat anything. About 10 years ago had knee issues and the weight came in masses. I went from 175 to nearly 190 in the first 6 months. I just got leg back into shape in past 3 years to where I can cycle again but I’ve got that fear of doing distance rides. I used to ride some 100 milers each fall. Longest distance since was just over 50 and it hurt, not muscle pain but in the joints.

Liquids are a big help. 4 scoops of protein timed throughout the day will give you another 100g or so.

I use ON Whey or Body Fortress Whey , will look at the other products . Have done the tuna route before at times but with my work its easier for me to do Lean Cuisines for lunch. I have trouble getting my wife to cook stuff thats not down home stuff. Meat and potatoes type meals are killing me.

Greek yogurt, tuna, chicken, beef, protein powders. I fucking hate chicken. I stopped counting calories cause I got tired of entering all the shit. I’m still close to 1g per lb though, I could probably benefit from cutting carbs but I love bananas too much.

I’ve been on a ketogenic diet for about 3 months now. The concept is basically eating as few carbs as possible, so your body switches out of glycolysis and into ketosis, I.e., burning fats instead of sugars.

Breakfast is usually bacon and eggs, and coffee with heavy cream in it.

Lunch is usually a wrap of some kind (I’ve found low carb tortillas, they taste fine) with maybe tuna or chicken salad, plus half an avocado and some almonds. All high in fat, low in net carbs.

Dinner is usually some kind of meat with green vegetables (green beans, collards, etc) and I usually put butter on the vegetables. I’ll add cheese to the meat if I want.

All of this is predicated on you not having lactose issues.

I’ve lost 10% of my body weight without exercising, and I eat ice cream frequently, if I haven’t had too many carbs through the day.

My blood lipids and blood pressure are fine, in case you were wondering.

If I’m not working out I skip powders, it just turns straight to fat if its not burned.

If carbs from banana intake is what you’re worried about, then you’re probably doing pretty good lol.

Very nice, like those food choices, especially the ice cream. For now my go to snacks are going to be dill pickles and watermelon. Have both at home and they are they are no or low calorie content.

I know the deal, when I was married that’s how I got fat haha.

Sardines are a good alternative they don’t have anywhere near the mercury of other fish because they are lower on the food chain. I recommend trying King Oscars boneless skinless in olive oil.

I’m not a scientist but every surplus calorie gets stored as fat if there isn’t a need for it. I think that if a muscle is recovering those excess calories are used to rebuild, but it’s easier for your body to do that when you give it protein vs it having to synthesize the protein.

Ya other then whole grain bread and multigrain cereal my carbs come almost exclusively from fruit/vegetables. Occasionally I eat out and get lots of carbs. According to macro calculators my carb intake is too high and my fat is a little too low.
