Anyone have experience with Turo?

Kinja'd!!!

So I might be taking another road trip in a few months. But, due to scheduling conflicts, I may have to leave the Outback at home and rent a car. I’m not really wanting to settle for some base model Corolla or Cruze, so I was considering Turo. But I have a few questions.

-Is there a particular limit to how far I can take a Turo car? For instance, if I rent a car in Atlanta and drive to South Carolina, is that ok?

-How are accidents handled, god forbid there is one?

-Is it genuinely a trustworthy service?

Some feedback and experience stories would be great.

I just booked my first Turo rental for next month (2015 Audi S5).

Mileage limits vary by car. Most seem to be around 100 miles/day

Turo offers an optional insurance you can buy into, but it seems like most auto insurance companies treat a Turo rental car the same as any other rental. Mine does, and will apply my personal car coverage to a Turo rental if an accident happens. Call your insurance company and check.

Like most of these car-sharing services out there these days, I think trustworthiness varies from person to person.

Used once, for a recent trip to Seattle. Great experience, much better value than car rental.

Appears to vary by car. You can specifically search by Distance Included.

IDK. I do know that insurance is provided by Turo, and I think it will serve as a supplement to your own auto policy if you have insurance. I’m sure there are explanations on the Turo site.

I think that depends on the person you are renting from. I had no issues at all — he met me at the airport, we walked around the car, and I was off. When we came back, he met me at the hotel, walked around the car, and that was it. You probably are safer renting from someone who has prior trips to his/her credit, although the guy I rented from only had 1 review at that point and was great.

I caned a rental RS through the mountains. It was a good time. Owner was easy to work with. Just make sure you have registration and insurance in the car with you.....for um ...reasons. Paper copies.

The RS had a mileage limit. It was a good time.

At first I thought you were trying to rent a Bora and that’s for sure never going to happen.

$120 I think. It’s been about a year. The owner also had a very high end sports car on Turo as well.

Wow he put it on Turo immediately then. I would be WAY to anxious to do that with my car, let alone an RS. Do you think he did it to help make payments or what?

Got a Hellcat for a weekend. Gtr for another weekend. ND Miata for a week (at like $27/day). Really depends on the person you rent from. Hellcat owner was leary because of my age (22) but once we met in person everything went incredibly smoothly. I even let her drive my Miata for a while. The Miata owner was great, told me “to rev it out” because the car is made to be driven hard. Fantastic experience. Gtr owner was... Not pleasant. Tried to get me to pay out of pocket for “damaged seat fabric” which was plain untrue. Not to mention insurance would cover everything in the event of any issue. Mileage limits and other rules vary by owner. You can see them in the turo app.

I don’t know where you are, but consider putting your location as the closest big city so you get more “fun” cars. Good luck!

Yeah, being in AL, all we have is a Chrysler 200 and a 300 dollar S-Class. Atlanta has a lot more to choose from

Rented a Boxster S 2 years ago at SFO and drove down to Monterey. Turo had a lot at a hotel near the airport where I picked it up. Different owners set ffferent mileage limits. Two insurance options were available, high deductctible or low/no deductible. I took the high deductible yet I was a bit puckered up at times about it but nothing happened. The car had a chip/gouge near the frunk lid I didn’t catch during the pre trip walk around but nothing came of it.
